Game of the Year Awards 2022 - Editors' Choice

by Frank "HiddenX" Wecke, 2023-01-09

Here are the games our editors look forward to most in 2023 - most editors played older games from their backlog in 2022, so there's no Editors' Choice for the best RPG 2022.

Editors' Choice: Baldur's Gate III

The Baldur's Gate series is legendary among CRPG fans. Larian tries to revive it and already started a long Early Access phase. It will be their first game in which the story background is not created by themselves. But after the two hits Divinity: Original Sin I & II we think the new game is in good hands.

Editors' Runner Up: Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

Owlcat Games next RPG Rogue Trader uses the Warhammer 40,000 setting:

"Set in the Koronus Expanse, a little-charted and perilous region of space, this backwater sector is rife with opportunities for explorers and adventurers alike. As a Rogue Trader, you will traverse incredible distances in your giant voidship as you chart this cluster of planets."
Sounds interesting!

Editors' Third Place: Starfield and Colony Ship

Starfield is advertised as "Skyrim in Space" by Bethesda - enough to get many open-world fans excited.

Iron Tower RPGs stand for choices with consequences, multiple quest solutions and branching dialogue trees. We hope that the tactical RPG Colony Ship - A Post-Earth Role Playing Game will offer exactly these features and challenging combat.

The Numbers

The following table shows the results of the voting by our editors.

Editors' Choice
Rank Game
1 Baldur's Gate 3
2 Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
3 Starfield
3 Colony Ship - A Post-Earth Role Playing Game

Honorable mentions: The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie, Urban Strife, Hogwarts Legacy, System Shock (Remake) and Gothic 1 Remake. I think 2023 looks very promising - Happy Gaming!
