Deck 13 - Opens New Studio in Berlin

by Gorath, 15:29

Lords of the Fallen and Venetica developer Deck 13 opens a third studio after their headquarters in Frankfurt/M. and their branch in Hamburg. The new studio in Berlin will be working on a still unannounced action-RPG for PC and current gen consoles. Release is planned for 2017.

After publisher CI Games decided to make the sequel to their million seller Lords of the Fallen without Deck 13, the developer's Creative Director and co-owner Jan Klose said in an interview that there's nothing to worry, Deck 13 is growing and seeking new employees. At that point it sounded a bit like damage control, but now it seems he was telling the truth.

Deck 13 - New Dystopian RPG Announced

by Gorath, 05:09

Interesting news from Frankfurt/M.: When Deck 13 was kicked out by CI Games after their Lords of the Fallen cooperation, they didn't seem too concerned by it. More the opposite, they actually hired people instead of sizing down. Soon it became clear their new game would be announced at the E3.

Well, here it is. Their new partner is one of Europe's leading RPG houses, Focus Home Interactive from France.

FOCUS HOME INTERACTIVE PARTNER UP WITH DECK13 FOR UNANNOUNCED RPG

Paris based publisher and Frankfurt developer to launch new action RPG IP

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Deck13 Interactive, Frankfurt based developer famed for games such as Lords of the Fallen, to bring you a new premium action RPG IP set in a dystopian sci-fi future to be revealed by name at a later date.

The new game will feature innovative combat mechanics and an original character progression system based on modular upgrades gained through tight, visceral combat.

Of the new partnership, Deck13 Interactive CEO’s Florian Stadlbauer and Jan Klose said, respectively, "We are delighted to be working with Focus Home Interactive. Our relationship with the company over the past few months has created a lot of trust and confidence already. During the past years, the Focus team has shown that they are extremely successful in marketing European titles worldwide."

Klose, CEO and Creative Director, stated "After our recent major project, the team at Deck13 is eager to take on the next challenge. We have learned a lot and want to deliver an even greater experience to core gamers this time."

Focus Home Interactive’s Managing Partner Cedric Lagarrigue added “We are ecstatic to announce this new partnership with one of the very best independent European development studios. We’ve been excited by Deck13’s new project since our first exchange with them, and as we’ve just got through the pre-production phase, we’re fully convinced by their capacities to deliver one of the most exciting RPGs to come in the future.”

The unannounced IP will be revealed at a later date, and the game is expected to launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC with a retail and digital release in 2017

German media is speculating, without substanciating it, the new Deck 13 game could be inspired by Deus Ex.

Deck 13 - Lords of The Fallen 2 in Development

by Couchpotato, 05:04

Executive producer Tomasz Gop announced on Eurogamer that his working on a sequel to Lords of The Fallen. I guess the game must of sold well on Steam to warrant one.

Executive producer Tomasz Gop confirmed it in an email to me this morning. "We're now working on vision and concepts for Lords 2," he wrote, but wasn't ready to talk further details.

Gop revealed the news in a Facebook post translated by our friends at Eurogamer Poland.

Lords of the Fallen came out at Halloween, at the end of October, and was a chunky action adventure much in the same vein - but far less punishing - than Dark Souls/Demon's Souls.

"If an easier, less obtuse variation on From Software's combat RPG is all you crave," wrote Dan Whitehead in our Lords of the Fallen review, "then it will certainly reward you with a lot of game for your money.

"I just wish it wasn't so happy to sit in another game's shadow..."

With Lords of the Fallen 2, developer Deck 13 and producer City Interactive have a chance to step out of that shadow. The groundwork is laid, a PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One presence established.

Deck 13 - Blood Knights Announced

by Dhruin, 22:34

dtp has a announced a new action/RPG from Deck13 (Venetica), titled Blood Knights. The vampire-themed hack'n'slasher is due "Summer" and you can check out the trailer here.

Soon Blood will begin to flow - dtp entertainment announces Blood Knights

Hamburg, 26. July 2012 - Today dtp entertainment announce their latest download game, Blood Knights – a full blooded Vampire-Action-RPG that features intense combat, tons of weapons, items as well as vampiric abilities that put players in total control over their enemies and let them feel the powers that vampires wield in the Blood Knights universe.

An exciting and entertaining story rounds off the picture of the unique download game. Blood Knights will be available on PC and Consoles this summer.

Blood Knights is developed by the renowned independent German studio Deck13 (Venetica, Jack Keane, Ankh) and features a plot focusing on Jeremy, a vampire hunter who was viciously attacked and bitten during on one of  his dangerous missions and is now bound by blood to the sexy, but mysterious, 'vampiress', Alysa. The former arch-enemies have to work together to rid themselves of the binding.

Blood Knights’ vampire storyline comes to life through the heroes Jeremy and Alysa. As different as they are, they are bound by blood and have to fight together to survive. While Jeremy is a mighty warrior who is dual wielding increasingly powerful weapons and uses devastating attacks, Alysa uses crossbows, traps, bombs and special ammunition to eliminate her enemies from a distance. Both are able to use various vampiric abilities that become ever stronger and more and more impressive in the course of the game. Jeremy for example can pull huge groups of enemies towards him and unleash chaos upon them once they are in melee range.

Set in the mythical Middle Ages, the players will be able to control both Alysa and Jeremy in their cooperative quest for salvation, either in single player or co-op mode. The protagonists will encounter numerous enemies, avoid traps and fight and confront an impressive  (and sometimes sexy) array of bosses - each one requiring a unique strategy in order to be defeated. Rich treasure and rewards await those who against all odds are able to fight their way through the wide variety of settings/scenes.

Blood Knights will be released in Q3 2012 for PC and consoles.

Deck 13 - 'Project RPG' Concept Art

by Dhruin, 00:04

We now have a single piece of concept art to go with Tomasz Gop's (The Witcher 2) untitled collaboration with Deck 13 (Venetica) and City Interactive. Here's a snip from Digital Spy's accompanying article:

The world is set 1,000 years after the death of a God, whose corpse is a mountain that splits the world into two sides, each with their own philosophy.

Players will cross the border between the two sides early in the game, and must decide to align with one or the other.

The game is early in development and is planned for 2013.

Deck 13 - Working on Crazy Chicken - Tiger & Chicken

by Gorath, 20:15

Venetica developer Deck 13 scored the development contract on the gazillionth game in the Crazy Chicken (German: Moorhuhn) franchise. This time the crazy chicken will visit Asia. The gameplay will combine the action oriented Crazy Chicken tradition - the first couple of games were simple shoot 'em ups - with Deck 13's expertise in humor, story telling and character development. The result with be an action game with significant action-RPG and adventure elements.

Major influences for Tiger & Chicken are the movies Tiger & Dragon and The 36 Chambers of the Shaolin.

On a sidenote, Deck 13 mentioned on their Facebook page they've signed a big contract with a well-known publisher. There's no reason to believe they meant Tiger & Chicken, and it sounds like a new RPG could be in the pipeline.

They also announced that they will release a Venetica art book for free when they reach 1000 Facebook friends.

Thanks, Alrik!
