Age of Grit Review - Gamebansheee
With game-breaking bugs, poor performance, a general lack of polish, and underwhelming systems, I can't in good conscience recommend Age of Grit to anyone. That said, some of the game's elements, namely its writing and weapon design, did manage to impress me. Meaning that if the developers here take this game as a learning experience, I firmly believe they're capable of producing something great in the future. But for now, you best give this project a wide berth.
Darkest Dungeon II: The Shroud of the Deep Early Access Update Revealed
We are excited to release the next update to Darkest Dungeon II! "The Shroud of the Deep" will be available on the Experimental Branch Wednesday May 18th. It will be moved to the Live Branch after we have verified there are no critical issues. Patch notes below.
Iron Oath Early Access Preview - PCGamer
The biggest issue at the moment and it's a common one in early access games is content. Oh, there are stacks of towns to visit, and piles of dungeons to clear out, but not enough varied art assets to make any feel unique. I can't say I'm keen to visit more aesthetically identical dungeons, but I would definitely return to that map, which is beautiful and a joy to traverse.
Saber Interactive joins development of Star Wars KOTOR remake - Eurogamer
Evil Dead developer Saber Interactive has joined up with Aspyr to work on the upcoming Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake.

During the Q4 Embracer Group report, board member Matthew Karch revealed that Aspyr and Saber Interactive were now working together on the remake, calling it a "massive product".

"Aspyr has gone full in to make this the best game that they can make. When we acquired Aspyr, we knew from the start that they would require our assistance [and] Saber has tremendous expertise in creating these types of products," he said.

Square Enix files curious new trademarks - RPGsite
The trademarks were filed back on 12th May, a week ago, but were made public and pushed into the public-facing trademark websites today. There's three new trademarks in total:

  • First, there's 'FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE', referring to the definitive edition of FF7 Remake that released on PS5 and PC's Epic Games Store last year. This trademark already existed, but this renewed trademark could signal that we're due for something new around Intergrade. While on Epic Games Store and PS5, the game is not available on Steam, and there's never been an indication of an Xbox version. Just yesterday, Tetsuya Nomura made comments saying that there will be FF7 25th anniversary announcements next month - this might be related.
  • Next, there's 'FINAL BAR LINE', which could be just about anything. To our mind, the reference 'Bar Line' brings to mind sheet music - so this could be related to some Square Enix rhythm game in the realm of Theatrhythm or Melody of Memory
  • Finally, there's 'LABYRINTH STRIKER', which our buds over at Gematsu note is actually presented more like a portmanteau of both words. Gematsu suggest it might be localized to something like 'Labyrinstriker'.

Embracer Results Show Gearbox Plans Nine "AAA" Games - IGN
"Gearbox continues to scale the organization to deliver on its ambitious growth plan, and there are currently nine AAA games under development," it said. We currently know of five games being published by Gearbox - Homeworld 3, Hyper Light Breaker, Relic Hunters Legends, Have a Nice Death, and Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case of One Victoria Bloom - but despite the "AAA" term being slightly subjective, most people likely wouldn't refer to the latter two or three of these as AAA games.

Medieval Dynasty - Calendar Contest
Last year you absolutely floored us by sending us more than 1000 screenshots! Each category was filled to the brim with the most amazing images showing off the game, your creativity, and your personal experiences.

Since then, the game has changed considerably, offering many more opportunities for passionate screensnipers and dedicated decorators.

So, we thought, let's collect screenshots once again and this time turn them into something extra special. Something to remember those experiences by, something to celebrate that creativity and something that everybody has use for. Our plan? For 2023 we will be making our own Medieval Dynasty calendar. A calendar featuring the best in-game impressions throughout the seasons!

And yes, it hasn't changed that much! We were really confident with the overall look of the map. We especially appreciate its bright Mediterranean colors.

The RPGs of 2022: Every RPG and Release Date - RPGsite
Here we list the upcoming RPGs we expect to see in 2022. This listing will often be updated throughout the year.

Now - we know - defining what exactly is an 'RPG' is can be a little tricky. While some of the games below may not best be labeled as an 'RPG', we wanted to include games that have evident role-playing elements. We allow for a little bit of wiggle room.

Let us also note: our list only includes games with confirmed English versions set to release in 2022 and will be updated regularly throughout the year. Games that do not have confirmed English localizations or have not yet been announced with 2022 release plans will not be included.

One final note: There are many RPGs currently in Early Access that may release in full in 2022. We don't try to predict when these games will leave Early Access, so they will not be included until a hard date is announced.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum still on track for fall 2022 release - Techradar
In a new FAQ posted to the game's Steam page, the developer states, Our current target to release the game is Fall 2022, which lines up with the window that was revealed in a trailer back in July 2021. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a game that's no stranger to delays, having been pushed from 2021 into 2022 in January of last year, but this fresh reiteration of the window is a promising sign that things are on track.
25+ Games Every cRPG Fan Should Try - Gamespace
Below you can find a handy list of beloved cRPGs, from classics to the games currently in development, if you ever face a similar urge. Note: the games are placed in non-ranked order.
What would Elden Ring look like as a CRPG? - Eurogamer
Elden Ring's worlds are beautiful and desolate. But what if the perspective was shifted?

That's exactly what YouTuber Flurdeh has done. Using camera tools by Frans Bouma, they've used a tilt shift lens and isometric view to create a video of the Lands Between from above (thanks PC Gamer).

Though not a full mod, it somewhat reimagines the game as a CRPG, Miyazaki's bleak world becoming adorable little dioramas with tiny model enemies shuffling around.
Best 12 Games Like Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Technewstoday
Classic role-playing, turn-based combat, and complex choice-making mechanics are perhaps what you prefer. Games like Divinity: Original Sin 2 offer a cautious, slow-paced experience for RPG fans.

Original Sin 2 is both a commercial and a fan success. It sold over 1 million copies in less than two months, and it's one of the best RPG games of all time.

It's a tough title to compare, so all we can do is find other games like Divinity: Original Sin 2 you would like.

RPG Tropes That Need To Disappear - Screenrant
Both Japanese and Western RPGs have a slew of classic tropes many may be familiar with: the save system that works in designated areas or the world map only, the heroes village is razed, or the hero is exiled for circumstances out of their control, and even the single parent meets untimely end forcing the protagonist to journey forward trope. As the years have passed, certain tropes have begun to be less "inexplicably critical to the game" and more "nostalgia refined." such as with the introduction of combat fast-forwarding, as seen in games like Bravely Default for the Nintendo 3DS. However, as classics re-emerge via remasters or new gaming landscapes like PlayStation's future premium service, new audiences and genre enthusiasts will discover some of these tropes that hinder the experience.
5 Bethesda RPG Mechanics that need to be in Starfield and 5 Not - Sportskeeda
With the delay announcement, however, the developers have promised an upcoming gameplay showcase soon. This will almost certainly take place on June 12th, as a Bethesda expo will be involved in the Summer Games Fest schedule. They have claimed that Starfield will be the culmination of their roleplaying game development experience and expertise up to this point.

As much as it gives fans a lot to look forward to, realizing such a proclamation is no easy task. Thankfully, three decades' worth of game-development and roleplaying game pedigree gives Bethesda a vast spectrum of experience they can draw from.
Xenoblade and Mana Series Veterans Are Teasing a New RPG - Siliconera
There's a new RPG coming out this year, and it has a fair number of industry veterans working on the project. Project TriTri, as it's tentatively named, is an action RPG coming out sometime in Q2 2022. Notably, working on the project are artists, composers, and scenario writers from Xenoblade Chronicles, the Mana series, Octopath Traveler, and more. Further details, including the game's official title, will be announced on May 26, 2022.
Fans of Witcher III Celebrate 7th Anniversary - ES
The Witcher saga has been an amazing journey of fascinating characters and unforgettable moments. With each of its successive installments, the franchise has only grown its relationship further with the players so far.

However, when it comes to the most adored title in the series history, then it has to be The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. First released in 2015, the third game in the trilogy can be easily described as, probably, one of the best video games of all time. On Wednesday, this well-received blockbuster completed its seventh anniversary of launch.
Deck13 buys part of Just2D - VGRepublic
While announcing having taken 30% of the German studio Just2Dthe company Deck13 Interactive (subsidiary of Focus Entertainment) unveils today his arrival on the Drova – Forsaken Kin project. This new title, presented in May 2021, is a dark action-RPG in pixel art where the player must choose one of two factions in an “open and dynamic” world.

Elden Ring's marketing helps to understand the lore - PCInvasion
Part of the reason for that approachability comes from the marketing for Elden Ring. The trailers leading up to the game’s release built intrigue, expanded upon events that are only briefly shown in the final game, and even showed major spoilers that would make no sense without the proper context. This is how the marketing of Elden Ring helped players understand the lore.

Tribal: Slavene Kingdoms - Magic in Tribal universe

Welcome! As we've mentioned in the past, we're working within a fantasy setting, and by no means are we trying to make a historical recreation of any real-world location. While we do largely rely on Slavic culture to give our world depth and a feeling of authenticity, we're leaving any notion of realism to other projects like Kingdom Come: Deliverance as well as Mount & Blade. So, with realism being thrown out the window, we have room to play with something very exciting. Magic. In order to create a magic system that fits within our game world, we decided that a mixture of traditional fantasy magic along with elements of religion would suit us perfectly.
