I wasn't sure it was worthy of a news post, but PC Gamer's new article of their 25 Best Fallout New Vegas mods had a lot of classics, and a few new ones I hadn't seen yet.

I wonder if RPGWatch should compile a list of unanimous fan favorite mods from all of us into a central pile for reference...*taps chin*

Hopefully there'll be a few you haven't seen as well, to take you back to the Mojave one more time.

Yeah, I ended up having to get that when I downloaded this Gomorrah Penthouse mod thingy (that's no longer available). I couldn't even go near the Strip without the game having a stroke. o.o

Bethesda didn't learn their lesson until well after Skyrim was released, and finally patched their game engine to allow you to use more than 4GB.

This mod also helped but you need to use it with ENB.

One rule you should always follow is to stay away from mods that need scripts to run they always crash the game, or other mods while playing.

Yep. :) I tried this super detailed weapons mod. It was insane. The guns were so realistic in terms of look and what they did...but they had these super uber complicated scripts. After a while, they just broke the game into like five pieces. I had to reinstall.

That's good advice. ^.^

I think I know the one your talking about it needed a few other mods to work, but it always crashed on me. One thing about Bethesda games and mods is the crashes.

I always liked using this one as it restored the classic weapons from Fallout 1+2.

I've used several script heavy mods at the same time, but you do need to know what you're doing somewhat. The biggest thing when using mods with scripts is manual saves and load orders. It does require knowing a little about merged patches and some other arcana as well. If you're the type to get frustrated when a mod bombs, scripted mods are not for you. You will have to mess with them more than non-scripted for sure. Not sure how I missed you two discussing a Bethesda game :)

I learned that lesson very well with Skyrim after trying a few script heavy mods. Nothing like having the opening cart flip upside down, and wave in the air like a kite on steroids.

I find it's far easier to use the alternate start mod to bypass it.:whew:

Skyrim's papyrus scripting builds scripts into the saves; Fallout does not. Scripting is generally safe provided the rest of your game is stable enough to handle it and the modder knows the script's implications.

Yeah, Couch, that guns mod wasn't exactly, ah..."Nexus approved"? If you catch my meaning? ;)

But it's all true. With these heavily scripted mods, I often feel like a drunk person shooting a gun. It's only a matter of time till I shoot myself, and if I don't, then I've had the luck to have done something right. I barely started with all the WryeBash stuff in Oblivion, and it drove me crazy. And merged patches and stuff...yeah, no. ;) I take blind chances ;)

Exactly you windup wasting more time tweaking the game with mods then you do actually playing. It's always fun re-installing the game for the tenth time.
I even used the multiple programs to merge files, and re-do load order.

Though in the end the end result is always better than the vanilla version.

For those interested in "properly" modding but are intimidated (like I was) by all these strange terms like merge-patch, script-cleaning, save-cleaning, bash-patches, custom patches, load order, papyrus logs, etc., I highly recommend watching Gopher's youtube tutorials. He guides you through every step without being too simplistic (thus insulting your intelligence), and they are fairly entertaining, considering their instructive nature. He extensively covers the must-have basics for New Vegas and Skyrim.

I think it was Drithius or CRPGnut who pointed me to these videos when I asked for help with New Vegas (thanks again, whoever it was), and now modding Bethesda games are pretty second nature, with the exception of really complicated stuff.

Thanks as usual to you too Couch, for the list of mods. Some of those I wasn't aware of and might prompt me to replay NV at some point - something I wasn't really planning to do.

It was no problem Nerevarine. Some of the mods I listed are new, and most of them are just texture mods. I hate getting scripted mods to work properly.

Also thank you for reminding me about Gopher's youtube tutorial, I seriously need a refresher course after taking a long break from the game.
They don't even list one of my personal favorites: Fellout NV.
I remember that mod it removed a green tint from Fallout 3, and orange from Fallout: NV.

No problem Couch, my gaming computer blew up a few months ago (literally - blown power supply, taking the whole thing with it) and when I get my new rig, I will have to reinstall everything from scratch. So I will definitely be referring to those videos again!
