Grimoire version 2 has been released and is 50% off on Steam.

Version 2 Now Live!

24 December - GOLDEN ERA GAMES
Version 2 of Grimoire is now live on the Steam Store with a 50% sale through to the New Year! The most incredible old fashioned computer roleplaying game just got a little more awesome!

CURRENT WISHLISTS # : 39,812 (combined)

Huge amounts of tweaks, fixes, adjustments and new content is found in this version, including the crafting workshop and all the item enhancements!

You can see all the items in your inventory, sort them on a variety of attributes like type and value, assay them, poison them, forge them, enchant them and merge them into new items! There is now a forge, alchemy bench, shrine and hearth in the game where different classes acquire various crafting arts they can apply to items to modify them or greatly improve them in combat!

The manual is being output to .PDF shortly and will be made available on the store from the main page freely so it can be examined by players who have not yet purchased the game to get a good feel for the mechanics. It is extremely extensive and explains all facets of gameplay with detailed explanations of all modes including combat, NPC interaction, character creation, level up, character review and the many mini interfaces like lockpicking and door forcing. It is suitable for printing and formatted for A4 output.

Beginning a new game from the classic game start will reveal new monster graphics and additional features have been added to the original maps. None of this should affect existing save games but players who have completed these areas may not see some of the new events. This will not affect the new regions at all which constitute brand new areas in the game.
More information.

I have to admit I'm tempted. There is also a manual promised soonish (how long that takes in Cleve time I don't know).

Did anybody play the first version and can say if it is worth the price of admission?

I am not qualified to provide a full review, as i have only played it for a few hours.

However, i refunded it after that. I just did not like the way it played compared to some of the older games and i personally felt the UI is kinda horrendous.

The game is now at €16,79 (although it was supposed to NEVER drop in price ) and actually currently at €8.39 for the winter sale, so it's not too bad if you want to give it a try yourself.

Yeah, I saw the discount in my wishlist. Apparently it has something to do with how many people wishlisted the game. The all-around lower price is because this is the "new" version 2 and not the original game...

Actually the first couple hours play best - no manual still - then the bugs & shortcomings become increasingly annoying.

The developer promised v3 so I'll wait another 3 years for that and then 1 more year for the patching, so Grimoire see you in 2022! :D :D

What is V2? A huge patch? An entirely different game? A New Game+ mode? Do we receive V2 If we buy the game? It is on my wishlist, só I'm tempted to get It.

If a person enjoys party-based dungeon crawling then Grimoire is one of the games to play. I do not like Cleve, we still do not have a manual as of 12/24/2018, but I do enjoy Grimoire. So it stands on it's own merit.

Reviews are mixed, both on Steam and Metacritic. Blobbers aren't really my cuppa, and there are better reviewed ones around. But at least it is still being updated.

Was kind of interested in the game for a while, but eventually found myself more interested in seeing what craziness Cleve was up to and what he was going to say next. I find it kind of amusing that it's on sale for 50% off now when for a while he was adamant that it was never going to be on sale again after release.

After looking over the news post that was linked, I found this amusing tidbit:
If everybody who enjoys playing Grimoire wrote a review for it, we'd have 95% positive rating on Steam! Please write a review for Grimoire if you have had fun playing the game, even if you are now in a second playthrough! Help push Grimoire back up to it's original 92% positive rating before the assault of the SJW refunders!

If only 15000 people buy his game now, he could make around $130 000. More than enough to develop Grimoire 2.

I was really tempted by the price as well, but then reading the reviews, along with Cleve's responses to same, cooled my ardor for it. Unless I'm misremembering, the Watch has never done a review of it, right? Kind of surprising.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the game and fully intend to replay it, probably sometime this upcoming year. If you enjoy a serious dungeon crawler that's actually challenging, this game would serve.
