Interstellar Space: Genesis is a turn-based 4x space strategy game that released recently.


You are among the latest, and perhaps the last, of the challengers to undertake this great journey into the stars. While the universe may be ancient, you and your rivals are still young. As you compete with one another for control of this galaxy, there are others, far older and more powerful than you, who watch from a distance with unknown intentions. It is time for you to prove your empire deserves to rule this galaxy, once and for all. You may prove worthy after all, but worthy of what? It is up to you to Discover the Unknown...

Interstellar Space: Genesis takes classic turn-based space 4X strategy mechanics, adds in a few twists of its own, and tosses them in with several brand new mechanics to create a truly unique entry into the genre. It also aims to provide a lack of burdensome micromanagement and an emphasis on the best aspects of classic 4X space strategy games.

From that trailer it is giving me strong Master of Orion 2 vibes.

Yeah, this game pretty much screams MoO2. Wishlisted.

Folks looking for an MoO2 clone might also check out Stars in Shadow, which happens to be on sale currently for $7.50. Haven't played a ton of it, but it screams MoO2 to me, too.

As an unimportant side note, I don't think I would've named my indie company so closely to possibly the best-known maker of 4x strategy games, Firaxis.

I thought of Firaxis as well. Regarding Stars in Shadow I've looked at that as well, but reading several reviews from people who seem to know what they're talking about made me skip that one. This one seems more positively received.

Yep, looks pretty amazing...still need to finish up the game I am currently playing. But I guess I will check out this one next.

The problem with Stars in Shadow is that the AI cannot hold up against you in midgame. That will be test for this one as well. So far the user reviews seem good, plus of course the review at explorminate.net. Many good design decisions without compromising the MOO2 formula.

If someone plays ISG, please let us know how challenging the midgame is.

It doesn't look like a blind following of MoO2, though, so hopefully there's something to stop the dreaded Stack of Death tactic.

In MoO2 you never need a fleet bigger than 20 ships. Just upgrade with new tech and larger hulls.

I read in the patch notes for IS:G that the AI now brings bigger fleets. Doesn't inspire confidence, let's see where it goes.

Another singleplayer game that should have been multiplayer, oh well.
 
No singleplayer game should be multiplayer. Unless you're EA CEO wannabe, but keep in mind that for that position you need to be medically speaking - a pscychopath.

Goes vice versa too - I could never play chess with myself.

Oh, yeah, I'm definitely a psychopath for wanting multiplayer in 4X strategy games. Like a lot of sensible developers - who're aware of how fun they are to play with or against friends.

We're all just a bunch of psychopaths :)
 
I ought only to inform you on a crucial requirement for a certain job.
Everything else is in the eye of beholder.
