Age of Wonders 4 - Official Story Trailer

Age of Wonders 3 is among my all-time favorite strategy games. However, Planetfall was a disappointment. It didn't offer much new to the formula and in many ways felt like a step back from AoW3. Apart from more customisation options, this new AoW does not appear to offer much new either. Am I mistaken?

Yep If you read the development diaries or watched the preview videos I shared this week Age of Wonders 4 is basically Planetfall with more added options. Anyhow based off opinions on this site you'd think that's a bad decision but polls and data say otherwise.

So I'm guessing more people liked the Planetfall system over the old way it seems.

More previews.

I was once a huge fan of the series. "Shadow Magic" was then my favourite game, although I found it a bit dark.
I lost contact to the series after that. I have no idea about AOW3.

Anyway, AOW looks to me in that video ... kind of like ... where King's Bounty had left the field, and became realistically looking. Therefore, I'd peronally prefer AOW over that. But that's purely my personal choice.

I have really enjoyed AoW3, and bought planetfall, but haven't gotten into it, but not sure if it is because it is more sci fi. I like Sci Fi, but not as much as Fantasy. Fantasy combat IMO has more elements. You don't just shoot a gun, but more visceral melee combat, ranged combat, magic, sneak attacks, etc. Fantasy has more options, whereas Sci Fi, seems more limited in my Mind (In my mind, I know Sci Fi can have lots of options too, but the limits of decreased technology increase the options).

I have to admit I like to build empires, and if I go all out to kill the opponents, the game get easier, and if I make the difficulty too hard, then I can't empire build. I often get defence upgrades to slow down conquering.

I am keen to buy and see what AoW4 has to offer.
On the same vein, I note the new Master of Magic is out. I didn't buy it as yet, due to a combination of cost, indie graphics, and the caster of magic release was pretty good alone. Anyone have experience with this?

Looking forward to it.
I hope they still have the feature where heroes with a certain trait can transform the surface terrain they pass through.

I just zipped into a let's play at steam where they where customizing their character. Standard stuff. But they then showed that you can also customize your faction, so their body height, their arm/leg length, skin color or the type of mount they're using.
Haven't seen this in a game before. Nice little detail.

The Rockpapershotgun article got me pretty excited for AoW4. This will be a winner if there are enough city-building upgrades and unit variations. Also, I hope it's not just spamming a bunch of cities at the beginning, which kills 4X games for me.

I'm excited about this one, the Age of Wonders series holds a special place in the hearts of my wife and I. We started playing computer games together basically with AoW 1, and here we are more than twenty years later excited about the release of AoW 4. I liked AoW 3 the best of the series, I think. Planetfall was alright but it was missing a bit of the special magic of the AoW series. Mind you, this didn't prevent me from playing it for many hours. I will love every incarnation of Ham.
