Assassin's Creed Shadows - Delayed to 2025

Not surprised given the amount of games still releasing this year, but next year isn't better either. It'll sell 10 million or more like the other past games anyway. 🤷‍♂️

Despite that it'll still sell better but I rather play Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

It's also interesting they're apparently also launching it on Steam on the same day. And apparently if you pre-order they're including the first expansion for free.
A bit of shakeup it seems at Ubisoft. They really need Shadows to do well. Apparently Star Wars Outlaws also did worse than expected.

Outlaws probably sold one million. Might seem like a lot but it's not. As the size of the team and marketing was very expensive. It's nice to see some type of shakeup.

I'm not that surprised. I thought making SW Outlaws an Epic exclusive was a terrible idea, and I'm sure that played a part in its sales.

I'd much rather have had Outlaws on Steam than this though.

Epic was part of the reason but good reviews cite bad technical support, and other odd descsions the developer used. Ultimately it turned out to be an average game.

Frankly I doubt we will ever get an actual open world StarWars RPG.

Outlaws is a good game. Shame it did poorly. It is one of the better Ubisoft games of recent years.

I'm a long time AC fan, but I didn't buy Mirage, and I'm not sure I'll buy this one either. The formula, at long last, has grown stale for me to the point where I'm not motivated to play them.

I think it's too early to say Outlaws did poorly. It's just the initial launch that did poorly. It obviously didn't sell the way Ubisoft wanted out of the gate, but it still has an eventual Steam launch at some point in the future when the Epic exclusivity deal expires. Hopefully the long-term sales aren't bad.

I am enjoying Outlaws a lot, maybe 1/4 of the way through it.

I didn't get Mirage, the first main AC game I didn't get, but I'll probably get Shadows. I'm okay that it's delayed as I want to also play the rest of Outlaws, God of War Ragnarok, Dragon Age Veilguard, and probably Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, plus probably Greedfall 2. It's a good time for good games.

Greedfall 2 isn't released yet only Early Access. So that doesn't count.

Only game listed in the post above that has my interest is Dragon Age Veilguard.

The rest don't care about them.

Next year though is way better then this year.

I’m looking forward to this one, but I’m not disappointed it’s delayed. Plenty of backlog and games coming out that I want to get to. Honestly gaming has been so good for so long that I want more games than I can play each year. My backlog keeps growing. I have games that are 10+ yrs old that I still want to play. I guess in retirement maybe.

I’m absolutely shocked that investors care about making money and are worried about an 83% drop in their stock value over the last 5 years. Who could have seen that coming?

A couple of weeks ago, Ubisoft's investors wrote an open letter to the company, expressing their 'deep dissatisfaction' with its performance and strategic direction, urging the board to consider taking the company private. The investigation by the board comes as no surprise.

What I am surprised by, however, is that Sony's investors still haven’t taken action after the company lost USD 400 million on a game that was pulled after only 11 days.

A pity game dev these days is entirely driven by shareholder expectations - they provide lots of cash yes, but 'there's no free lunch' and I think they are not willing to take risks. Hence same old formula...same with ES as was mentioned in article I saw (here?)
I'm not a huge fan of AC games - I'd play this at some point when it's cheap.

I get the frustration, but I think it's a bit too simplistic to blame shareholder expectations for the state of modern game development. Some of the biggest failures recently have come from studios that over-promise and under-deliver, or chase trends without fully understanding what their audience—especially the global audience—actually wants. No matter how good or bad the reviews are, sometimes the audience just isn’t large enough, or they’re not spending enough to even cover development costs. There have been so many flops that investors have had to step in and ask what exactly is being done with their money. Just take a look at this list of the 10 biggest flops this year:
