Avowed - Choices with Consequences

Going to be *INSANE*!!!! :p
I mean...do people actually speak like that?
did it make you click on the video? They're counting on it from at least some people. :)

I hate the histrionics. I also hate that we trot out this "choice and consequence" thing for game after game, and they rarely if ever live up to it.

Agree, Choices and Consequences normally are a diferent screenshot in the end of the game or someone that dies instead of another. What seems a choice is just an illlusion. I like what they did in Cyberpunk with their endings and prefer that our choices where more in how we can solve a problems or fights in game (aka Deux Ex) then saying that our choices have consequences and normally end in a Mass effect 3 ending.

Cyberpunk 2077 was pretty solid in that regard. But one of the all time great divergences came in a different CDPR game.

Witcher 2 has an entirely separate chapter 2 that depends on a choice you make at the end of chapter 1. Devoting that many resources to a bunch of content that anyone only playing one path will never see is almost unprecedented in modern (read: expensive) gaming. We may never see that again.

And I wouldn't really expect to, because of the aforementioned high cost of gaming. What really gets me is that even in games completely built around the promise of diverging plotlines, we don't get any real changes. Like the Telltale games.

That was a great feature in The Witcher 2 and I did play both paths and you really saw the story differently for that Chapter. Having said that, the final chapter and endings was more or less the same.

Yep, when it comes to choices locking you out of content (in favor for other content), then TW2 is really outstanding.
Of the newer games, BG3 has a lot of content too that is totally optional, and in some cases only a few percent of players will see.

After the Art Director's comments, I have zero expectations for this game and will pass on it. If, by some chance, it turns out to be decent, I might consider getting it when the price drops to $10—mainly because I enjoyed Pillars of Eternity

I think the best choice and consequence I ever experienced in a game was dealing with Jeanette and Therese in Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. There were many ways to deal with the problem based on your stats and choices.

One of my top 10 games of all time. I replay it every three years or so. I didn’t see the double personality aspect coming the first time, but her being a Malkavian explains a lot.

For me, the best game about choices and consequences is Tyranny. Depending on your actions, some locations may not even exist, and when they do, they can be radically different based on the path you choose. The choices you make during the Conquest significantly affect conversations and how you solve certain quests.

All games from Iron Tower Studio (The Age of Decadence, Colony Ship: A Post-Earth Role Playing Game, and Dead State) also offer a huge amount of choices and consequences.
