Baldur's Gate 3 - Patch 8 Launch Stream: April 15

Will check on new subclasses and consider coming back to bg3. I already spent over 100 hours with it, but havent finished it. Which is nothing unusuall for me as it took me 587 hours in WotR to finish it once.

None of the new classes really do it for me. I would get excited if they increased the level cap to 13, but that seems unlikely. I got to level 12 far too quickly during the final chapter.

I don't need that to feel happy, just need some sense of progression. Geeez people get one of the best games of all time (I hope the hype is real) and still want more. If it's good Enjoy what you have not what you wish you have (that works for everything in your life :p)

I got to level 12 almost instantly upon reaching the (huge) final chapter. Really sucks not having any more level progression for a massive chunk of the game.

A lot of nerds are upset at the game that saved single-player CRPGs. Contrarians will always think they can make a better game, and they know best.

People leveled fast because they're completionists. If you play more organically you end up level 12 around mid to end of last chapter.

I skipped some areas in chapter 1 and 3 on purpose to enjoy a replay and it was the right decision it seems

Thing is, BG3 is the kind of game that invites you to explore the maps. I've read that it's even possible to reach level 12 while still in chapter 2. I think Larian could have done a better job of distributing XP to avoid that.

I'm not a completionist by any means. I left many quests unfinished in Act I and II. Also, people level fast because they want an advantage over the present content. I hit level 12 just after the Gortash inauguration. It's been a grinding slog ever since and I suspect I still have a long way to go. Not real impressed.

It's a game built for completionists, and you shouldn't need to handicap your play just to arrange to reach level 12 near the end game. Reaching the level cap at any point during the final chapter becomes demotivational, at least for me.

Yeah, the level cap is something that only completionists should even reach to begin with, and even at that, only around the end of the game. Generally, non-completionists shouldn't ever even reach the cap. Seems not too long ago that that's how most games worked. If nothing else, it gives you that extra motivation to actually try to do everything in the game.

Having said that, I recently played WotR with all DLCs and reached the level cap even earlier than I did in BG3. It was ludicrous. My full playthrough was 400 hours, and I still had >100 hours to go after hitting level 20. At least there was still mythic progression to be had, though, all the way up until the very end. Didn't feel anywhere near as bad, thanks to that.

I don't think it is a game for completionists as it is nearly impossible to complete all content. I think it is a game for replayability. In my opinion that is the intended way to increasingly reveal the full content of the game.

I understand most players will not replay such a big game though and want to do as much as possible in their first playthrough and that's where most of the problems with level cap come from.

Still progresson could have been made slightly slower so that level cap is reached later in the game.

I would say, at least to me, "completionism" just refers to completing as much as the game will let you, within the context of a single playthrough. It doesn't mean completing everything. Obviously most games don't (and shouldn't) let you.

I was wondering how many people that found it a 10/10 played it co-op. Because a basic problem I found was that controlling a whole DnD party through turn based combat got exhausting after a while. I can imagine if you played it co-op with friends and chatting about what to do like TT, that would take it to another level and reduce the slog.

I've been playing co-op on the Xbox with my daughter, and it really is like a whole new game. If only she wasn't a busy high schooler and had more time to play with her dad. Maybe this summer...
