Collecting of Big Boxes of old RPGs

I've started quite a few bonfires back in the day with old manuals, game boxes and the like. Better than aged tinder, and burns hotter than you might think. On the downside, it can also create an awful stench.

I have a fairly huge collection of boxed games in my garage. I only reveal it to my gamer friends. I'm pretty sure my wife doesn't even know about it.

And another one, this time it's German again.

Somebody is selling 3 boxes which seem to be in very good condition of the games:

Baldurs Gate 2, Dead Island, Wizardry 7 Gold
for just 29€ and 6€ shipping

I am very tempted to buy them myself, but I already got 2 of them (in different boxes though) and I am not interested in the third: BG2.

Just something interesting I stumbled on today. Saw this game on ebay, and I never even heared about it: "Desciples of Steel":

Looked further into it, and well...it got horrible scores (ranging from 14/100 to 41/100) and it got into the list of Computer Gaming Worlds Worst of all time from 1996 according to mobygames: https://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/disciples-of-steel

Anyways: It looks kinda interesting. Did anyone of you actually play that thing or know something about it's history?

The CRPG Addict has played through it.

I have every single boxed game I've ever purchased. They are all opened but in excellent condition as I've stored them in a dark, dry location over all these years. Sadly, I'll have to be dead before they'll ever get sold off. Good luck.

Thanks! Collecting RPG Big Boxes actually has a great advantage over other genres: There are not really that expensive games out there. And I actually got most of the games I am looking for in that genre (I am also collecting other genres though).
Most expensive stuff is probably Ultima Games before Ultima 8, and Bethesda Games. But there aren't that expensive games as early Lucas Arts Adventures (Maniac Mansion), ID Soft games (Wolfenstein 3D, Doom) or Epic games (Jazz Jackrabbit).

Games in the RPG Genre I am still specifically looking for (for decent prices) are Might and Magic 2, Might and Magic 9 and Wizardry 8. Which all kind of share a common theme of being basically only available in the US and therefore usually quite expensive in Europe (or you have to live with 20€+ shipping on top of the US price).
Oh...yeah, and there is Fallout 2....

I have all the games you mentioned in your prior post. It's interesting, after all these decades, I can go and open my original Sierra On-line large-box copy of Ultima 2 and it still has that "fresh" just copied smell. Guess that smell, twinkies, and cockroaches will all still be present when humans are gone.

Haven't written here anything for quite a while, but wanted to highlight something I just found on ebay and which might be interesting for someone living in the US (and someone from EU who want to cope with the shipping prices)

Reals of Arcania - Shadows over Riva is a rather rare sight, and there is an offer for just 14,95$ instant purchase

And just one other thing as I have never seen this before: Rogue, in a sealed version (tandy) for 84,95$

I am going to resurrect this thread to give some updates and to show off my collection in it's new habitat. :D

In the initial post I mentioned that I had been living in a tiny apartment. Well, that changed. I finally moved to a cheaper AND bigger place and brought my collection from my parent's to my new home, where I also crafted some nice shelves with LEDs for that.

So if you are interested in having a look you might want to check out the video. You can also directly jump to 22:32 if you are only interested in the collection itself. :)

Well...yeah, this took tons of time. Though at this point it's actually hard to say whether the cupboard itself or the video took more time. ^^

But I am completely with you regarding DIY usually. It really depends on what you got available though. Generally I think I like "crafting" of all sorts, but the issue is, that you need the right space and the tools, and it easily gets frustrating without.

As comparison: I got a tiny 7*3 m² garden. But I have no car to bring away the waste, and I got no motor saw to cut the bushes.
...and I hate gardening in general. So in this case I will find someone who does the job for me.
