SpellForce: Conquest of Eo Gameplay - w/ Developer Commentary

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: FSR 2.1 vs. DLSS 2 vs. DLSS 3 Comparison Review
Speaking of performance, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a very CPU intensive game in DirectX 12, as the CPU usage is mostly single-threaded on PC due to very poor DirectX 12 implementation, and high-powered GPUs such as the GeForce RTX 4080 can end up CPU bottlenecked in some sequences of the game, even at 4K. In a such CPU limited scenario, comes a very welcome help from the DLSS Frame Generation technology, which has the ability to bypass CPU limitations and provide additional frames. With DLSS Super Resolution in Quality mode and DLSS Frame Generation enabled, you can expect more than doubled performance at 4K and 1440p, and during our testing, overall gameplay felt very smooth and responsive, we haven't spotted any issues with the input latency.
The state of Path of Exile - PCGamer
Are the players happy? Mostly. There have been posts and tweets about balance issues for the Sanctum, but the clarion calls of complaints from keyboard warriors on Reddit have been conspicuously less present this time round. Everyone seems to be broadly satisfied and having a good time, and the league hit a concurrent user spike of 213,480 players.

The jury's still out on a number of things. Will the changes to eldritch altars make it so I don't have to run to the boss, kill it, then go back and clear the map? Will the jewel changes make ailment immunity easier to obtain? Will the Elder actually drop Watcher's Eyes for me now that the bonus drop rate is baked-in instead of on the atlas tree? Will Mathil (opens in new tab) ever find a build he likes? We don't know yet, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

Monster Hunter World collaboration for Assassin's Creed Valhalla - RPGSite
Today, via YouTube and Twitter, Ubisoft revealed that Assassin's Creed Valhalla has received a new update incorporating a collaboration between the game and Capcom's Monster Hunter World. Yes, the last one, which received its last update two years ago. Regardless of the timing, players can take advantage of Odogaron-themed weapons, armor, and even a mount; at the same time, players can enable a skin for their scout that replaces it with a Legiana. All very neat stuff, especially for those players who are both big Monster Hunter and Assassin's Creed fans. 111K subscribers

ESO Developer Deep Dive Combat Core Values - Betshseda
Today, we’d like to share with you our goals and core values for ESO’s combat system. First, we’d like to address the combat Q&A we mentioned a few months ago. As we were reading over your combat questions, it became apparent that we could better communicate to all of you our vision and core values for combat. Most answers to the combat-related questions of “Why” we have gotten over the past few months are grounded in these core values; we wanted to take a step back and overview these to help shed light on our long-term vision for combat in ESO, which we recognize we should have shared with everyone much sooner.

Lost Eidolons Events - Wrapping Up 2022

A big thank-you for the amazing 2022 from all of us here at Ocean Drive Studio! We wish you happy holidays and even happier new year!
Gothic 1 Remake Happy Holidays 2022

For the holidays, we return to the place where it all began - the Valley of Mines. Enjoy a seasonal sneak peek at the Old Camp and our efforts to create a faithful Gothic experience. And it wouldn’t be faithful without an atmospheric soundtrack from Kai Rosenkranz, would it?
Tortured Hearts - Or How I Saved The Universe - Winter Sale: 60% Off
My card game is not finished, because AI image generation is not a trivial task at all. It will only be ready next year. As for the sequel to TH, I've made as much progress as writing about 20,000 words of dialogue, which is a significant improvement, especially considering how many things I have to do at the same time.
A unionized gaming industry? - WindowsCentral
While big tech historically has a relationship with unions somewhere between "disdain" and "open warfare," Xbox and Windows parent company Microsoft is looking to change that, as hundreds of quality assurance (QA) workers at subsidiary ZeniMax Media seek to organize.
Here are the Worst Optimized PC Games of 2022 - DSO
And it’s that time of the year. Before publishing our Top 10 Most Optimized PC Games of 2022 article, we’ve decided to share the worst ones. The following games really let us down (tech-wise), and we consider them to be the worst optimized games that came out on PC in 2022.
Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen - December 2022 Newsletter
We are wrapping up 2022 and we take a quick review of what happened in December. There was a lot of important milestones met. Check them out in the Producer’s Letter. As always, if you missed something over the past month, you can catch up with our Month in Review. We speak with Senior Programmer Robert Crane this month, who was happy to unfold the mystery of the tools used to create Pantheon. You can read up on his magic in our developer feature, Tools in Pantheon. And lastly this month, we speak with Disparate Worlds in our Community Feature.
The Last Oricru - Patch 1.2 and Winter Sale
It’s been two months since we launched The Last Oricru. We listened to your feedback and did our best to answer every single review and be active in as many discussions as we could. Based on your feedback we released a host of smaller fixes and one big update that also added a better camera, an option to remap the keyboard and controller, and even some in-game items like new armor, shields and weapons.

We’re glad to see recent reviews reflect the fact that we’ve made progress since the game’s release, and at the time of this writing 90% of them are positive.

Now we’re releasing Patch 1.2, which will polish additional bugs you’ve reported, making the online experience even more smooth, as well as adding one of the most requested features: an in-game map.

StarCrawlers Chimera - Winter Update
It's getting cold out there, so stay warm with toasty new patch notes - and keep an eye out for presents to pinch! Who knows what you might find... Happy Holidays everyone!
Corven Path of Redemption - Development Update
2022 is almost over. Months just fly by.

The initial goal was to be done by the end of the year, but that obviously did not happen. I worked relentless on the game, no vacations, nothing, but still I am far from done. I was too optimistic.

After all the experience I gathered over the last 2 years I reevaluated the time it will take me to be done. It will be by the end of 2024. There is no sugar coating it, this is just how it is. I don't want to string you along month by month, I want to be honest.

There is no problem in development, everything is going as smoothly as is can. Of course there are problems which get me stuck from time to time, I wrote about some of them here, but nothing major. I am not trying to make excuses I am just being realistic. If anyone is really disappointed by that then I am truly sorry! I want to do it right and not rush the second half of development.

GOTY Awards Most Disappointing Games - COGconnected
We had such high hopes for these games. But then, tragedy struck. The magic wasn’t there. That special something simply slipped away. Or, in some cases, the devs aimed for quality and landed squarely on pure evil instead. Let’s count down the whole list, from the ‘could have been great’ to the ‘shouldn’t have been made!’ It’s COGconnected’s Most Disappointing Games of 2022!
How The Elder Scrolls 6 Can Innovate the Combat System - Gamerant
The combat system in the Elder Scrolls can be summarized by the gameplay in Skyrim. Players can find, unlock, and equip different weapons, magic, and abilities using Skyrim's massive skill tree. Players can then level up specific skills depending on the combat styles they focus on. While the game has been renowned for having an incredibly open and dynamic combat system, some invisible rules are still in place. After all, many battles in Skyrim feature the player character hacking and slashing, shooting, or blasting magic repeatedly until the enemy is down. Understandably, there's significantly less nuance there than many players would like.
Marvel's Midnight Suns Review - MMORPG
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a lot of character and base building built into a unique deck building Strategy RPG. There are some story pieces that just aren’t entirely enthralling, and you may find the exploration to be lacking. What Midnight Suns does happen to do exceptionally well, is provide a purely satisfying strategy game, once you wade through all of the monotonous upgrades to get you to the combat. With plenty of characters to unlock, and multiple difficulty levels to amp up the strategy required, this is one of the best Marvel games to release in years. The best part is, whether you’re a Marvel fan, or you’re just a strategy buff, Midnight Suns delivers. Do not make the mistake of passing on this one.
Tales Of Arise Was Not Originally Going To Be A Tales Game - TheGamer
The ever popular entry in the long running Tales franchise, Arise, was never actually supposed to be a Tales game at all according to a couple of prominent people at developer Bandai Namco. The game was originally going to simply be called Arise.
Kingdom Hearts 4 Has the Same Opportunity to Reach New Fans - Gamerant
However, as fun as the ongoing series can be for longtime fans, the half-dozen games across nearly as many consoles previously made introducing new players to Kingdom Hearts into a hassle. So, what Kingdom Hearts 4's new story direction needs more than any spectacle or mystery to follow is a way to bring new players into the fold. This could easily be accomplished with an optional recap at the start of the next game, or by creating a whole new foundation for this new story in these new worlds.

Here's what Skyrim and Fallout modders want to see in Starfield - PCGamer
While launch day may yet be months away, there's no shame in dreaming about Starfield mods already. I wouldn't be the first to spitball a slew of reskin mods for Bethesda's upcoming space game: everything from Star Wars and Star Trek to Firefly and Battlestar Galactica. Starfield is sure to bring all sorts of wild player-made mods: interface tweaks, balance patches, new companions, combat overhauls, and all the other Herculean feats we've grown accustomed to Skyrim and Fallout modders creating.

But instead of dreaming up a laundry list of requests, I decided we should just ask the creators of major Bethesda RPG mods what they're hoping to create (or play) this time around. They also tipped me off to their most-wanted features for Starfield's version of the Creation Kit software. Although we don't know the feature list yet, Bethesda's work on an updated Creation Engine for developing Starfield likely means some fresh features for modders too.

Here's what they had to say—and don't worry, there are two mentions of Thomas The Tank Engine here. The meme won't be dying this decade.
Sony reportedly blocking non-exclusive titles from coming to the Xbox
Microsoft continues to lobby hard for regulators to approve of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. As it tries to convince regulatory bodies to greenlight the purchase, the tech giant is showing it's not afraid to throw shade at its biggest detractor and competition, Sony. In its latest response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority, Microsoft is arguing that Sony has effectively blocked a handful of games from ever coming to Xbox platforms.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - First Impressions

Talking about my initial experiences with the enhanced edition for the first witcher title after playing the original almost 15 years ago.
10 Best Role Playing Games of 2022

If there's one genre that never seems to run out of steam regardless of what situation the industry at large might be in, it's RPGs. Though they've been a pillar of the medium for nearly as long as the medium has been around, the last decade or so has seen role playing games rise to a level of unprecedented prominence, to the extent that mechanics and ideas associated with the genre frequently find their way into other unrelated categories of games.
Sony deal bans FFXVI and VII Remake from Xbox - RPGSite
Sony hasn't responded to this specific claim - but the legal battle rages on. We don't know what Square Enix's plans are for Final Fantasy XVI yet - but we know its initial release, on June 22nd, will be PS5-only. The game's first trailer noted that it was captured on PC specced to match a PS5, so a PC version seems inevitable. Beyond that? Microsoft seem to think FF16 won't be coming to Xbox - but time will tell. We also already know that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also as a PlayStation exclusivity deal - but again, don't yet have full details.
6 Hardest Turn-Based RPGs Of All Time - TheGamer
Those who aren't fans of the turn-based gameplay style in RPGs usually say they're boring and repetitive rather than challenging. On the contrary, a well done turn-based system finds a balance between fun and challenge. There are strategies you have to think about in your battles, especially because the game isn't afraid to throw powerful enemies at you with no warning.

Zoria: Age of Shattering Preview - Christ Centered Gamer
In conclusion, Zoria was an enjoyable experience that provided me with nearly ten hours of content. A good portion of that time was spent losing battles and learning from them, which slowly made me adept at breaking the mechanics. At the start I was overwhelmed, but by the end I was engrossed in the world and the gameplay. There’s a solid base at the heart of Zoria that needs a bit more content and some polish, but I have high hopes for the final product. I’d recommend giving the demo a try—it’s free!—and I look forward to the full release of the game.
2022 Mod of the Year Awards - Moddb

The immersive sim is finally breaking free from its roots - PCGamer
For a genre that once risked slipping into obscurity, the immersive sim hasn't had a bad run. It's been kept afloat for the last decade by developers mining its roots, producing plenty of PC gaming favourites. Arkane's Dishonored took the eerie stealth of Thief and added a dose of industrialisation, Prey mixed System Shock 2's sci-fi horror with a gallon of GLOO, and Eidos Montreal's Deus Ex reboots revived the genre's superhuman poster child.

There have been innovations, but most of the immersive sims that have appeared over the last 10 years have stuck to the model of the genre's architects. That's changing. Now they're going boldly where no cybernetically enhanced human has gone before. Take a look at the last year and what's coming down the line, and it's clear we're at a fork in the road. The genre has never looked so varied, or so open to experimentation.

Weird list; for example who would consider xcom series 'hard' much less hardest of all time ?
Not only that, but the article literally said this about the new XCOMs: "even on Easy, these games can overwhelm you with how tough they can be"  Don't know about Battle Brothers, but hadn't heard about it being particularly hard. Never even heard of the other 4 games on the list.

As a bonus, this writer's previous article was titled "Disney Dreamlight Valley: 7 Cutest Companions".

Elden Ring Wins The Highest Number Of Game Of The Year Awards This Year
The year, 2022, is owned by Elden Ring. This game has blown out any competition away by a huge mile. God of War: Ragnarok was one of the most anticipated games of the last few years but even it couldn’t faze the success of Elden Ring.

According to ResetEra, Elden Ring has won 145 Game of the Year awards from different publications. It’s also notable that it’s still December and a number of prizes are yet to be awarded but this number indicates clearly that Elden Ring deserves to be called the sole winner.
