That Urban Strife shelter industry layer looks similar to the Dead State one. Hopefully it is a bit more meaningful in this game.

Diablo: Immortal January 2023 Developer Q&A - Blizzard
Welcome to our official Diablo Immortal Q&A series. About once a month, the development team at both Blizzard and Netease will select a handful of burning questions from the community to respond to—both the question and answer will be posted below. We hope for this series to not only be educational but provide an additional level of transparency between the development team and players.
Avowed Reportedly Has 10+ Narrative Designers - Gamerant
A new LinkedIn update reveals that Obsidian developer Zoe Franznick, who worked as a narrative designer on Pentiment, has joined the Avowed team. This reportedly means that the open-world RPG, set in the Pillars of Eternity setting Eora, has 10+ narrative designers working on it.
Remakes Should Be More Than Just HD Clones of Old Games - IGN
Directors and Hollywood studios have been remaking films for decades. Many of those remakes are considered among the best movies of all time: The Thing, Heat, Scarface, A Fistful of Dollars, The Departed… the list goes on. Each one of these examples reexamines and recontextualizes the original story, creating a recognisable but – vitally – distinct final product. A good remake retains the core essence, but provides a new perspective on the same events. This is a pathway that video game developers seem largely hesitant to follow, and that threatens to have the industry stuck in a creative rut. Nostalgia continues to exert its iron grip on pop culture, and it's asking us to pay full price for games we’ve already played.
Fallout-style RPG wows with retro-futuristic flying cars - PCGamesN
If you miss the days of classic, old-school Fallout, some of the best classic PC games in their isometric RPG format, then we’ve got great news for you. New Blood Interactive, the developer collective behind such games as throwback FPS Dusk, is making a retro-futuristic game drawing heavy inspiration from the early days of the Fallout series, and the studio head has just shared some exciting new gameplay footage of it in action.
NieR Producer "Pretty Confident" Will Be Another Game - TechRaptor
Today the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences released an extremely interesting video podcast featuring Sony Interactive Entertainment head of indies initiative Shuhei Yoshida interviewing NieR series creator Yoko Taro, producer Yosuke Saito, and composer Keiichi Okabe.
Connecting the World of Graven - Steam
I’m Chris Holden, Lead Level Designer on Graven. Our game's world opens up through exploration, secrets, and unique items that enhance the player's navigation. This requires a lot of unique connections for designers to create.

Graven's levels are big and level designers are given a lot of freedom to use the space. We found a little extra padding here and there was useful for transitioning, storytelling, pacing, etc. That's where our smaller connection levels came into play as many of those areas grew to become their own areas of importance and the assets created for them became some of the most widely used and important modular kits for the project.

You can try the demo.

I hope they finally added some QoL features and added an option to disable the party barks. Those alone were annoying enough to make me stop the demo before finishing the first area.

Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay Reaction - Is it Overhyped?

In this Hogwarts Legacy Preview: Gameplay Reaction, we will talk about the stuff that I liked and don't like from what we've seen so far. As well as answering the question of whether the game is overhyped. So if you're interested to hear about our thoughts, then check this video out.
Atomic Heart – 14 Things You Should Know Before You Buy

Mundfish's Atomic Heart releases on February 21st for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Surprisingly, it's been in development since at least late 2018, with sporadic updates till last year (and reports of mismanagement, crunch, reboots, etc.). Nevertheless, it's nearly upon us, and the latest trailers and gameplay have looked very good.

Stoneshard Devlog: Dungeon Generation - Steam
It’s been a while since the last devlog, so we’re here to tell you about the current state of affairs and our plans for the near future.

Let’s just say the workflow has been less than ideal - the Ukrainian part of our team experiences blackouts and disrupted internet access due to the constant shelling of the country’s infrastructure, and the part of the team that formerly resided in Russia needs time to adjust in a new place. Nevertheless, we’re still determined to continue working on Stoneshard.

The main focus right now is on the next major update, “Rags to Riches”, which will both introduce and expand upon a number of key gameplay systems, namely the Caravan, the dungeon generator, and the economy.
Forspoken review: Already on borrowed time - VG 24/7
In the cut-throat race for your attention, Forspoken feels like a new IP that’s trying to run full pelt alongside heavy-hitting franchises from other big publishers. But it ploughs, shin-first, through every hurdle along the way. Its stuttering start belies a combat system that’s worth investing the effort to learn, but takes so long to get up to full speed that it’s already on borrowed time.
Longtime Mass Effect writer Mac Walters departs BioWare - Gamedeveloper
BioWare's lead writer Mac Walters is no longer at the developer. On LinkedIn, Walters revealed he made the "very difficult" choice to depart the Canadian studio he's worked at for almost two decades.

"These past 19 years have been a life-changing experience," wrote Walters. "It’s hard to fathom it all, and I know I’ll be reflecting on it for years to come. Thank you to everyone I’ve had the joy of working with, and I wish everyone at BioWare the very best in everything you do. It’s truly been a pleasure."

His leaving marks BioWare's first high-profile departure of 2023. In recent years, the RPG developer has lost big names such as Christian Boyd, Jonathan Warner, Casey Hudson, and Mark Darrah.

What The HELL HAPPENED To Forspoken?
Reviews are finally available for Forspoken, and while we scored it a 7 – not the worst, but not the best – overall impressions have been mixed. On Metacritic, it has an average Metascore of 68 from 61 critical reviews. There are several 8+ ratings, but the vast majority range from a 6 to a 7.3, with the lowest being a 4.

Fallout 76 Update - Illegal Weapon Mod Removal Update
Tuesday, January 24 at 10 a.m. ET we are bringing Fallout 76 offline across all platforms to apply an update. This update is focused on bug fixes and improvements, but also includes the illegal weapon mod removal we announce in November.
Sacred Fire - Act 2 Expansion
Since the initial Act 2 release last summer, we’ve implemented numerous updates to player choices and character reactions, based on our community feedback, almost doubling it’s initial size.
Dungeons & Dragons' OGL isn't worth fighting for - PCGamer
One way or another, we are at an inflection point for the hobby. We live in a time when the cultural clout of D&D is so high that we have a credible, big budget movie adaptation on the way, but the game's future feels more in the balance than ever. I don't see the value in uniting as a community behind the idea of making that future the same as now or worse. We can try for something better—something that WOTC can't wrap its grasping fingers around.

Retro ARPG Sanctuary Sagais on Steam on March 8th
Follow the antics of disgruntled guilds leaving their homelands to face the harsh unknown in the Untamed Wilds. Row-based combat system forces players to make strategic choices at every moment. Monitor each hero's Argument meter; if it gets too high they may refuse to help fight!
What Avowed Can Learn from Star Wars: KOTOR 2 - Gamerant
As it stands, there is little information about Obsidian's overall direction for Avowed or how it may carry over game systems from Pillars of Eternity. However, the team has an established history in character-driven narratives where decisions affect the course of the story, player agency being the cornerstone of its RPGs. The company's first release, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, played an important part in cultivating these design traditions with its engrossing cast of heroes, villains, and everything in between. Although the Star Wars franchise is distinct in its world building, Obsidian managed to make its mark with shades of gray morality in an otherwise black-and-white universe.
Fallout London Wants British Voice Actors - Eteknix
Now, just before you feel prejudiced against for not being a Londoner, don’t worry, this isn’t as important as you might think. Yes, even Dick Van Dyke’s incredibly unconvincing attempt in Mary Poppins might technically qualify here. – So, what are they after? Well, the team behind the Fallout London mod are looking for a wide variety of British accents to feature in their title. Having a London accent is probably beneficial, but it seems they’re open to pretty much anything. Perhaps even my brummigen accent to act as a further pollutant to the virtual London air!
Composing Forspoken: An Interview with Garry Schyman - Game Grooves
Industry veteran Garry Schyman (Bioshock, Dante’s Inferno, and Shadow of Mordor) teamed up with another industry veteran, Bear McCreary (God of War, Battlestar Galactica, and The Rings of Power) to compose the game’s soundtrack. While I haven’t had a chance to play the game myself, I did hear a few of Garry’s compositions, and judging from that, this is going to be one hell of any adventure. In this interview, I speak with Garry Schyman about his career, his inspirations, and his favorite memories from composing Forspoken.

Matt Chat 500: Baldur's Gate 2

For my 500th episode, what game could possibly be more appropriate than the best CRPG ever made? Baldur's Gate 2! Is it perfect? No, but even its flaws make it more enjoyable to analyze than other games are to play! I've held off on covering it for a special episode, and 500 seemed like the perfect milestone. Enjoy!

Urban Strife Spring NextFest News - Steam
We're pleased to announce Urban Strife has been handpicked as one of the featured games at the upcoming Steam NextFest, coming February 6th. To celebrate this, we've taken your feedback and polished even more the Prologue Demo. This time you will be able to enjoy it fully, from day one of the festival and well beyond after NextFest ends.

Because we promised you an early comeback and because being a featured game requires one to have a press demo, tonight we will reactivate our regular build, the one you've seen Zemalf, Splattercat and other content creators play. You can, of course, download and have fun with it, but it is meant to be a demo for journalists and the un-patient ones. Just remember to be back here on February 6th, or you'll miss a lot of things.
V Rising Sales Continue to Sell - BluesNews
