How to Build a Better D&D Dragon - Gizmodo
Meanwhile earlier this month, the D&D MMORPG Neverwinter kicked off a new season of content called Echoes of Prophecy, tasking adventurers with uncovering the mystery behind the return of a shadowy, undead-dragon-loving order, the Cult of the Dragon. With the second part of Echoes of Prophecy set to hit Neverwinter today, and Fizban's Treasury on shelves, io9 spoke to D&D Game Designer and Fizban/s Treasury co-author James Wyatt, and Neverwinter Lead Designer Randy Mosiondz, to ask a simple question (or six): what goes into making a Dungeons & Dragons Dragon?

Sci-Fi RPG Settings & Environments Panel Discussion

When we think of an RPG we often think of a fantasy setting with dragons, elves, magic swords and trolls. However there are huge number of titles that opt to be set not in fantasy but in sci-fi settings; with technology, space, dystopias, spaces that feel contemporary, inhospitable planets, or a setting that re recognise some and yet other aspects of fantastical. This panel explores the attraction of the sci-fi (or non-fantasy) setting for RPGs and how it approaches world-building.

Join Larian Studios, the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 as they explore how their design philosophy gives players a tabletop-like experience.
The Hybrid RPG Panel Discussion

RPGs started as a physical activity with players sitting around the table. Then it seemed that digital games might kill off physical titles like D&D; but that didn't happen. Instead, the connectivity of digital games and the creativity of the tabletop RPG community has begun to merge and evolve in interesting new ways. This panel explores the subsequent hybrids emerging now, where play moves between the digital and the physical, discovering fresh concepts and furthering practicality.

Don't wanna steal this thread, but it's convenient so I'll use it to say that a friend I work with that may or may not be related to the gaming industry and/or EA told me that a new Mass Effect is under development. Credit to @Couchpotato; for having an amazing thread for RPG news to post little tidbits like this!

Take those news as you will (queue modern BioWare hate etc), but I'm kinda excited. :)

I'm excited as well. Bioware hasn't shared much info except a few artworks and that short CGI trailer. Looks like their going back to the milky way after Mass Effect 3.

Here's the latest poster. Click to enlarge it.

Now here is a pleasant surprise. Electronic Arts and Respawn have just removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a great third-person action-adventure game. The game came out in 2019, meaning that it took EA and Respawn two years in order to remove Denuvo.

Bethesda Developers Share Their Skyrim Stories For 10th Anniversary
This November, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim celebrates 10 years since its launch - a decade of battling dragons, delving into foreboding dungeons, forging alliances (and rivalries) with the region's populace, hoarding sweet rolls and, most importantly, creating your own story as you adventure through the world.

To ring in this momentous occasion, we've asked the community to join us in the 10th Anniversary Fan Celebration, highlighting your passion by asking you to send us your Skyrim-themed artwork and stories about how the game has had an impact on your life. Of course, it's not just the players who have had Skyrim touch their lives - this game plays a major role for many of us here at Bethesda Softworks as well! Join us as we share some of our own Skyrim stories with you.
THQ Nordic update on Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning's Fatesworn Expansion
We are in the final production stages for the Amalur Fatesworn expansion and we'd like to give another update. Unfortunately, the whole project was more challenging than we initially anticipated as we had to rebuild the content creation pipeline from the ground up. Without these tools, we would not have been able to build new worlds, dungeons, items, and other core RPG elements. However, we are in the last stages of polishing and plan to wrap it up in the next couple of weeks.

Well, they (EA/BioWare) confirmed that a new Mass Effect is in the works in the official N7 day (November 7th) update so it's not a big secret anymore :) .

The long post included a "looking back" section, a "looking around" part with some interesting statistics on the Mass Effect series and finally a "looking ahead" section which clearly stated:

We are, of course, hard at work on the next adventure in the Mass Effect universe. Until then, please accept our most humble thanks to you for accompanying us on this journey.

^ A new Mass Effect is definitely coming for next gen consoles (and PC).

Journey for the Crown - Fantasy Open-World Isometric RPG -
This looks interesting.
They say that combat will be something new, not TB or RtwP, but action combat. In the video it just looks like standard realtime combat.
Does anyone know more about it?

Elden Ring Has Changed Souls Games Forever

We've played Elden Ring all weekend and the biggest surprise is all the new stuff. There are new features, mechanics, builds, attacks, mounts, magic and more that have a big impact on the Souls series.
Punk Wars Released on Steam and GOG

The years go by and another cycle has come to an end. Our civilisation has crumbled due to our greed and selfishness. Now we know that to avoid repeating the same mistakes, we need to stand united… and ours is the banner, under which humanity can thrive again. Our technology, philosophy and way of life are the ones that can finally bring happiness to the world… we just need to convince a few stubborn leaders…

Punk Wars is a combat and tactics-oriented strategy drawing inspiration from the classic turn-based 4X titles. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, in which the ruins of a once powerful megacity become the arena for a deadly fight between four newly emerged corporations, trying to assert dominance for both their unique technology and philosophy of life.

Become the powerful leader of the mesianic steampunk, tenebrous dieselpunk, militaristic steelpunk or technocratic atompunk; explore the ruins of a bygone civilization, where resources are scarce and the dangers way too common. Develop your infrastructure and technology that will secure your triumph. Create a winning strategy and a playstyle for each faction, utilising their distinctive skills and units.
Josh Sawyer's Historical RPG is called Pentiment & Releasing Next Year
We've known since 2019 that a small team at Obsidian led by Josh Sawyer was working on some sort of unusual combat-less RPG, codenamed Project Missouri. A few bits of information about this project have been revealed over the years, but it's been nothing compared to the constant teasing that preceded the formal announcement of Pillars of Eternity II. However, that might be about to change. Last week, GamesBeat editor Jeff Grubb revealed some new details about Project Missouri on his podcast at GiantBomb. The following day, Windows Central reporter Jez Corden, who published his impressions of an early build of Avowed last month, revealed on his podcast that the game's title was Pentiment. As expected, it is indeed the historical RPG that Josh announced his intention to direct way back in 2016. Today, Corden published a useful summary of everything that has been revealed about Pentiment, along with an art asset that "may represent" the visual style the game is going for.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 rumored to be in development hell
It;s been a while since our last look at Beyond Good & Evil 2, right? After all, the last time Ubisoft showed WIP gameplay footage from it was back in 2018. Since then, though, we really haven't heard anything about this game. And, according to industry insider Tom Henderson, the game is currently in development hell.

Henderson claims that the game lacks a creative direction, something that got even worse when Michael Ancel left Ubisoft. Not only that, but its development team fears that Ubisoft may actually cancel the game.

Elden Ring: 30 Minutes of Gameplay Reveal

Elden Ring: 30 Minutes of Gameplay Reveal! Network Test start, middle, and end footage! In this video, we'll show you 30 minutes gameplay of Elden Ring, this will include gameplay from the Champion Class, Enchanted Knight Class, Bloody Wolf Class, and Warrior Class.
Elden Ring Small Preview Roundup

IGN
Elden Ring very much represents a return to the Souls style, which is most evident in its dark fantasy setting but also rings true in its gameplay and mechanics as well. It brings back the split Estus Flask system from Dark Souls 3, allowing you to choose to prioritize either health restoratives or mana restoratives by distributing your flasks as you see fit.

Combat is slower and much more methodical than Sekiro and Bloodborne, with often fairly lengthy start-up and recovery times on most of your attacks and heals, forcing you to pick your spots and choose the right moments to attack, defend, and take a sip of a flask.
Eurogamer
In case it isn't clear yet, I absolutely loved my time with Elden Ring - there are enough tweaks and touches to make this feel like a fresh take on the Souls formula, not least the absolutely stunning open world you're free to explore. But the game still manages to feel reassuringly familiar to this Soulsborne fan, while adding enough optional features to help new players feel empowered to give Elden Ring a try. This was a very generous helping of what the full game can offer, and despite sinking so many hours into it, I still came away hungry for more. There might not be a better sign of its quality than that.
WCCFTech
The mystery of Elden Ring is finally unleashed on the world and it won't be much longer for fans to take part in this weekend's network test. For some, Elden Ring may play it too close to From Software's lineage but for fans that are eager for Miyazaki and Martin's signature collaboration, Elden Ring represents the very best of the genre and I can't wait to see what other surprises the open-world holds.
Game Informer
These highlights tell some of the major beats, but there is mystery everywhere in the Elden Ring network test, and I hope that you get to explore it. Elden Ring does indeed draw upon many of the elements that make the Souls series some of the best games in the world, and Souls veterans will be right at home. New players to FromSoftware’s suite of exceptional action-RPG fare will find a helping hand in both summoned spirits while playing alone and a host of multiplayer functions that allow for jolly cooperation. Both sets of players will find themselves enthralled by the exploration elements combined with the already tried-and-true, best-in-class art direction, dungeon design, and fluid combat. Elden Ring may still be months away, but now the wait’s going to feel exceptionally long. It might even be better than Bloodborne. See you in February, adventurers.

Elden Ring Closed Network Test Preview

Elden Ring is a familiarly punishing, third-person action RPG woven into a smart and enthralling open world, and more than any previous FromSoftware game, it begs to be explored. It's Big Dark Souls. It's Dark Souls 4 in all but name; a gigantic RPG that I spent 14 hours exploring, like, three percent of without getting bored. Elden Ring is exactly what I was hoping for: the greatest hits concert that FromSoftware has been building towards for over a decade.

Late Conquistador Review - Gamebanshee
Expeditions: Conquistador is a game that despite its budget-related limitations manages to fill you with the spirit of adventure. It is easily one of my favorite games of the whole Kickstarter gold rush era, and I can't recommend it enough to anyone looking for a unique experience. And if you so happen to find the conquistador aesthetic really cool, you'll enjoy it all the more.
Project Awakening Releasing on PC, New in-engine trailer - DSO
During its latest conference, Cygames revealed that its upcoming game, Project Awakening, will be coming to PC. In addition, the team revealed a new in-engine trailer that you can find below.
Nighthawks the Vampire RPG - 30 Days Of Nightbook
Like many people, the core of your Nighthawks vampire’s world is their smartphone, never mind the fact that in this setting, vampires can’t actually use them properly. (As a reminder, the lore extends the classic ‘no reflections’ rule to recording devices, which includes speaking down phones.) The real purpose is to act as an immediate, semi-diegetic place to store anything that you might need to look back on. Your Contact List, for instance, stores character profiles and notes added during specific storylines, while the Diary is your questlog, and Calendar is easy access to previous saves. All of this is wrapped in a Not-Facebook shell called 'Nightbook', because I was clearly feeling very inspired a couple of years ago. Unrelated, dear lord, has this thing been a design nightmare...
Alder Forge - Alder Forge Devlog #3
Designing the weapons in the Alder Forge is not a one-stop process that comes after the character design but an ongoing active one, the reason for that is populating the weapons throughout the world and the Players' ability to acquire them, and each weapon should not only differ by stats and perhaps skills but also by the design itself, and without further ado let us begin with the first step of the weapons design process.
BioSynth Rising - Character Creation, Quests, and Quality of Life UI
Since our last post, we’ve been working on quite a few things… let us show you a few of those! Our next goal for BioSynth is to create and deliver a demo. We want you to have fun with it – which starts by being able to actually begin the game. So we worked on that.
