Gamespot reports that Dark Souls III is now Bandai Namco's fastest-selling game ever:

Dark Souls III enjoyed a record-breaking debut, Bandai Namco has announced. The From Software-developed RPG had the most successful launch day in the publisher's history, while it's also become the fastest-selling game ever for the company. Overall, Dark Souls III saw "incredibly strong" first-week sales.

However, no specific sales numbers for Dark Souls III were divulged in Bandai Namco's news release today. [...]

It's a splendid game, and I'm surprised to see so few news posts here! I'll have to start submitting. ;)

It basically does everything right that the first Dark Souls did, and wraps it in a much better PC port. It's not perfect, but I have a hard time imagining any fan of previous entries who doesn't end up liking this one, too.

I rarely buy games new anymore, but I don't regret picking this one up last week. (Granted, I got it via GreenmanGaming's 20%-off voucher.) I still need about 20 tries to defeat every boss, but I'm already more skilled than I was in the original game and I'm having a blast.

Not a news thread but we have ongoing discussion here, feel free to jump in.:)

I guess this kind of game will be the new craze after FPS and MOBAs.
We can expect 10 similar games to DS now in next 5 years (and some already have been released).

Make something with an interesting open-world and customisability, and mix in DS-style focus on strong combat gameplay, and you'd really be cooking with gas.

It's called Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt on the hardest difficulty.

I haven't played it through properly yet, but, from what I've played, the combat did not strike me as its strong suit.

Record breaker Namco's game.
The Division is Ubisoft's breaking record game.
Wasn't SW:Battlefront EA's some record broken thing?
Etc.

I bet there is a something all these recorders have in common.
And it ain't art.

I'm curious, but a fanatical PC-only friend has given up trying to play the Steam version and has resorted to the shameful step of borrowing another friend's XBox One to play it.

Also, I'm pretty sure that I would never "git gud" as I am kind of slow and clumsy.

I'm a massive DS fan but I have to say that so far I'm pretty disappointed. The bosses I've fought have been ordinary to say the least. It really hasn't challenged me like DEs and DS did. Hopefully it gets better.

Hopefully by the time I get to picking this up in December, the first DLC will be out and all of the frame rate issues and other bugs will have been ironed out with patches. :)

Also, an idea I had during the height of Dark Souls II's popularity was to create an RPG Watch Guild to help our players through the game. Perhaps some of the present players who are also interested in this could possibly help to establish it.

I'm hand picking my way through the reviews here and there but are very wary of spoilers. I like very much that the game is hearkening back to the original in its world design but aren't fully won over by the seeming marriage with Bloodborne's speedier combat.
If you're reading DeepO - looking forward to reading your impressions of the game!
Edit:
Oh dear. More ignorant comments about the control methods. When will they ever end?

I am playing DS3 on PC with keyboard and mouse. This is my first souls games and I don't know how the game will feel like if I used a controller but I am perfectly happy with keyboard and mouse controls. The only annoying (which you get over quickly) is that the in game help text only refers to Xbox controls names!

Also I am playing the game at 2K with all setting maxed out and I am getting constant 60 FPS(locked I think) on GTX 970. After about 25+ hours, zero crashes or bugs.

As other have said this game isn't for everyone. As a first time player, its really hard. One simple mistake and you are dead. However I am still at it despite all the deaths is because I see my twitch and reflex skills improving. This feeling of improving yourself is worth all the pain and deaths! Think of the feeling you get when you level up a character in other RPGs. Then multiply it by 100 since its you the player who has actually leveled up in DS3!

How is keyboard/mouse controls for those of us who don't use controllers ?
Don't go there.

I'm a vivid defender of "Games on PC should have proper PC controls - and that is kbm" myself, but the fact is that some games just work so much better (and easier!) with other controls. Racing games, fighting games - and games like Dark Souls.

Yes, some similar games had pretty good kbm controls - Darksiders would be the best example IMO. But those games are not nearly as demanding when it comes to movement precision as Dark Souls is. They are simply much easier, thus forgiving suboptimal input methods.
I tried playing DS2 with kbm, but gave up about 12 hours in. Then - a few months later - I got my Steam Controller and tried again. I'm still playing ;)

Really, it depends on the type of game and you are limiting your enjoyment if you try to force a certain type of input on a certain type of game - just like playing shooters with a controller will always suck in comparison to kbm.

@lostforever You will have a much easier and more smooth time using a controller.

I have PS4 controller and I hooked it up to PC using DS4Windows software. Windows see the controller fine but the game doesn't see and I gave up after a while. Anyway I will give another go soon and see if I can get it to work.

I suck at using the analog stick on any controller to move the camera. The camera never goes to where I want and I ended up dying in others games due to this! With the mouse, the camera goes exactly where I want it to go. I can very easily keep the mob in view and run around it with the mouse but if I use the controller, I find that hard to do. Is this not the case for other people?

If camera control is not better in the controller for other people, why is it still better and smooth?
