Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Gameplay

What the world really needs is more mediocre forum posters who never achieved anything in life and have nothing insightful to say about anything, so they might as well ignorantly attempt to besmirch the work of individuals who are pound-for-pound superior to them in every single facet of life.

We don't have enough of those.

You're absolutely right! The internet is seriously lacking in mediocre opinions. It’s about time we, the untalented masses, rise up to ensure no corner of the web is safe from our uninformed takes. After all, someone has to balance out your brilliance and high achievements.

Wow! With this post alone you achieve a level of mediocrity, which hundreds of averagely mediocre posters couldn't even dream to reach with thousands of their futile attempts...

What DA: Veilguard looks like to me isn't a terrible game, or even a bad one, but rather an uninspired one. It looks like the product of a bunch of people whose frame of reference is entirely other similar RPGs. The writing is self-aware and "clever", the gameplay is am amalgam of things we've seen before, as focus tested and streamlined as possible. I think I'll just be bored.

I yearn for RPGs that have a true creative spark, but so often they just don't. I don't know if they'll turn out great overall, but I bought Tainted Grail: Avalon and Dread Delusion a few months ago because they seem to have that. I've played a lot of Vagrus over the past couple of years because it has that. Other games are just very good at what they do, like Starfield and BG3, and so I enjoy them despite neither being particularly original or singular in their vision.

It's hard to tell how inspiring the game will be from what we've seen. Its combat looks fluid, its animations, solid. Its dialogues and voice acting sound and feel witty and nuanced. And its systems and menus look more intricate than most would have anticipated, at the very least.

It's very possible that it will be one more unremarkable 7.5/10 cookie-cutter RPG, sure. Get that review bombed down to 3.5/10, just because it's BioWare/EA, and everyone's favorite sport is to spite the bigger companies. There's definitely a non-zero chance for that to be the case.

The truth is we just don't know yet. Some people in these boards expected BG3 would be a massive flop, "because Larian couldn't possibly write a good DnD game" or "they're too goofy, their humor is stupid and childish" or another fan's favorite, "they will just fill everything with pointless explosions and elemental effects". Now they are all hiding in the shame-cave as the best RPG in at least 20 years pulverizes every record in history for a game of its genre. Or worse, pathetically try to excuse themselves pretending still that it's not a good game, it just managed to appeal the "dumb masses" as they clearly swallowed the biggest penis-shaped red pill that propels them as the overlords above, the chosen ones to know what's good.

We'll see what happens with DA: Veilguard. Maybe it will be average, or maybe we'll need to send more people to the shame-cave. I'm looking forward to find out.

Ah yes, the classic "wait and see" approach, where we all sit on the edge of our seats, wondering if DA: Veilguard will grace us with mediocrity or ascend to RPG greatness. Because, of course, if it's anything less than a groundbreaking masterpiece, it's not due to design choices or execution, but because it's BioWare/EA, and hey, we all know that's everyone's favorite target.

Naturally, the review bombers are already sharpening their pitchforks, ready to dunk the game to oblivion just because how dare a big company release a game, right?.

But don't worry, DA: Veilguard has a chance to turn out either "cookie-cutter" or "revolutionary." And if it's not, well, I'm sure Vaelith will have a cozy spot reserved in the "shame-cave" for all those who dared to doubt its glory. Can't wait to see how this unfolds!
