Of the series, I only played DA-O and to be honest, I didn't enjoy it that much. I was sold by the "spiritual successor to BG2" speech and while it didn't completely disappoint, it was not as good as I expected / hoped. I skipped the next games and then I heard about this one, read/watches a few review... and I wonder, what the hell happened to Dragon Age? You can't create your character, you can't even control your party, it seems more like a generic EA game than anything else... :-/

I'm going to watch the Mortismal one rather than the popular media. He's painfully detailed, which means I get to tell if I'm likely to like it/not like it, regardless of his own opinion.

In some respects I have no problem with it becoming more of an action game. I like similar small-party action RPGs like Dragon's Dogma and have no loyalty to the original games. (I've only played part way into the first game - it's been something I've always intended to remedy, but obviously it didn't really grab me if I haven't got back to it yet).

From an RPG-fan point of view, I can see why the move to a more streamlined action game is disappointing. Part of an ongoing trend. Maybe that will start to reverse with the success of the likes of BG3.

I don't know if you should torture yourself with more than 40 minutes of stammering from Mortismal. He's usually fine with game mechanics, but here, he said in his conclusion that he had a blast with the combat, whereas it seems most others agree it's repetitive and boring. He also liked the story, which has been noted as a weakness in this game by a few others. So I'm not sure he's being entirely honest, and I'm not the only one.

I'll wait until more trustworthy reviews appear or someone here plays it. There's no rush, anyway.

I agree with Fextralife when he said, 'You should not purchase a game based on initial reviews but instead wait for players to get their hands on it and tell you how things actually are, so there's a true consensus—not one manufactured by a large corporation that clearly doesn’t care about its community or community members, but instead cares only about the bottom line' This advice applies to most games and developers.

I was undecided and on the fence but after watching a few reviews with spoilers, I decided to purchase the game. Bottomline yes I don't like some of the design decisions, but it's basically a fantasy Mass Effect. It's all BioWare knows to develop.

Still all those 10/10 reviews make me doubt modern journalism once again.

Seems to be one of the top 3 sellers on Steam - so that must means something? Based on what I've seen going thru some reviews, I'll hold off until it's cheaper at least. I will of course keep an eye on people's comments to see how it played for them - and whether it becomes as repetitive/boring as several reviewers claim.

You have to play as Rook, but you can choose your class and gender and customize your looks.
So just like every DA and Mass Effect game?

I could very well live with that.
Is there some kind of Normandy?

Rook is the name of Pawn we get in both Dragon Dogmas in tutorial LOL.

Yay I get to play as a Pawn (if I end up getting DA:V that is)

No just your tavern base camp before you start each mission. It looks to have taken inspiration from Mass Effect 2 with the various companions, and action combat.

Character customization is adubant as well with various options.

Heck you can even play as a trans character with special dialogue options.
