Dragon's Dogma 2

Review is still progressing... I'm experiencing writer's block atm... so difficult to talk about end game while trying to avoid spoilers, argh.
You could warn the reader that there are spoilers in that part. It's almost impossible to write anything about a game's ending without some form of spoiler, anyway.

Sitting at 4100 words and still have few more things to talk about.... starting to look like I will definitely go over 5000 words... Progress is also slow because life's been busy so I can only work on the review on weekends.

Need some leisure time as well, so played some more DD2 :D

I was playing as a fighter (main pawn mage) and recently switched to warrior and my pawn to sorcerer...ew...nothing feels right. Swinging that huge sword take forever, and my pawn was my main healer and now she often goes down. I have a thief and archer as my other two pawns. Man, I hate the controls - having to hold down CTRL to trigger alternate attacks etc . Most of my issues are with getting the controls to work for me. Did some limited rebinding (I only have +2 side buttons onmy mouse), and still feels clunky. Also, only having 4 slottable abilities is horrible - I wonder if that was imposed by controller limits? I'm still enjoying romaing about (def more so than DD1), but since combat is so common having these controls is taking away a lot from the experience.

I'd recommend Thief or Archer for your Arisen. Sorcerer is one of the weakest vocation especially in early games imo because you get interrupted a lot while casting and speeding up casting consumes stamina.

I'd say Mage (heal/support) and Fighter (tank) is more suitable for Pawns at least until you get a good hang of the controls. Your Mage Pawn should get Palladium - this prevents your party taking damage for a short period of time. I'd say Mage is better with heal/support spells rather than offensive spells.

Again, I recommend Thief and Archer - their primary attacks are great so you don't have to rely on other attacks until you get used to controls. I spent most of the early games spamming Archer primary attack until I leveled up enough to have decent amount of health and stamina to take more risk with combat.

I prefer 4 attacks over 6 in DD1 - more choices doesn't always mean better especially because the control was just as clunky in DD1. Don't forget to use core skill ability as well (I think it was default bound to V) - as an Archer, whenever enemy got too close, I gave them a swift kick :D You can also throw objects at enemies, like the dead monsters, rock etc.

I'm still enjoying romaing about (def more so than DD1), but since combat is so common having these controls is taking away a lot from the experience.
You should have camping gear now, so do rest often at camp sites.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'm still having fun, but I think I need to make some changes in what I play. I'm definitely reverting my main pawn to mage - things just worked well. I do camp a fair bit - I've been attacked a few times, and had my camping gear burned ;-) (because I buy cheap crap *cough*) but I have some better camping gear now.

I actually enjoyed traveling with my last set of pawns but had to swap them out since they were 5/6 levels below me...that is hard for me, since I like party-based games an the idea of swapping them out is hard to get used to. I know I can rehire them...but still.

And I always have my eyes to the sky - I had a tangle with that damn gryphon (only once - fled the other times) but it decimated us (we were low level)...what level should you be to take it on? I'm level 20 now....although switched vocation so not sure how that affects actual power.

I know what you mean - I only had to swap out one of my Pawns constantly cause I always travel with my main Pawn & hubby's Pawn.

Not exactly sure what level but Gryphon is meant to be tough - generally, you aren't expected to kill it in one go - they will run away once they are in low health and come back when you are fighting something else to make it more difficult. If you encounter it after it ran away within 7 days, it still should be on low health. If you encounter it after more than 7 days, its back to full HP (7 days is respawn timer for gryphon).

I don't recommend switching vocation unless you aren't enjoying it because you won't have much abilities unlocked when you first switch. If you decide to switch, make sure you hire Pawns with decent gear and abilities - its not just about vocation when it comes to party composition in DD2 but also what Pawns are wearing and what abilities they have.

Sigh, I honestly think Capcom rushed out DD2 to meet their FY24 target. Not to mention using it as a guinea pig to test out open world using RE engine for MH: Wilds.

So much potential wasted....

(Review still on-going, just hit 5,000 words and still got few more things to cover - hubby will help me cut few things down once I put down all the points).

It's unfinished?
If I ever finish my review you will find out but yes, its very clear the game is unfinished, as in, full of cut contents.

Now, I'm going to swear in Korean.

Haven't played it yet myself but there was supposed to be DLC.

Guess the next in line will take over now.

Anyway I will wait to buy the GOTY Edition on GOG in a few years.

That looks much more concise than in English (or French). :)
It's more satisfying when I swear in Korean - English doesn't have the same impact for me.
A lot of people were involved with DD2. One person leaving isn't going to end work on it.
Perhaps but only if Capcom thinks the IP is worth working on. Right now, they are working on their beloved IP, MH: Wilds, so DD2 could be tossed aside. I mean, DD2 already feel like tech demo of MH: Wilds so Capcom might think its use is done.

Performance improved vastly this patch. I used to get only 40-45fps at big cities but now its stable at 60fps with no stuttering.
