Dragon's Dogma

Donkey Kong... hehe... now if only there were some burning barrels around to roll down at him!

When I first went in to Bitterback in the mid-30's those wolves were kinda tuff but survivable. After that was goblins but they had an armored cyclops with them. That would have squished me early on!

Were those twin cyclopes in a big, round room? That's actually a special arena. Every time you go there, there's a big boss fight waiting. It's good to pop in there from time to time when you feel bored. The dungeon itself continues through another door that leads to a hallway with some cells.

Oh, now there's something weird! In Bitterback there are a bunch of broken rift stones. There's one in one of the cells I just mentioned. Thing is, they cost thousands of RC to fix and most of the ones I've found are less than a minute away from an existing rift stone. So why should you ever rebuild the things??

I finally bothered to sell off my spare weapons. That earned about a million in gold! I still haven't gone through all the spare armor I've got sitting in the innkeepers' magic storage.

The game has an interesting difficulty curve. You start out and everything is easy up to Gran Soren. Then any bandit or large creature can kill you for several levels, then all of a sudden you can smash anything once you hit the 20's. I seem to be in the stomp anything right now, but I'm sure the difficulty curve will catch me again. I'm just wandering the map and entering the various places as I find them.

I've been killing griffins, Cyclops with armor, several donkey kongs (ogres, I think) as I'm kinda wandering the nw area past GS. I've done a quarry, the stick figure area, and I'm currently wandering around the Catacombs. I found an exit that takes me back to GS, so I'm gonna stop in and mix curatives, even though I filled up 40 bottles at the healing springs and haven't used any yet.

I just use high ingle, comestion, and miasma. I might see if I can buy the upgrades when I get in town. Oh! I can turn in that quest for the stick figure dude too.

I thought you were going to go sorcerer? Do I have to post another video to convince you??

I presume you opened up that north/south tunnel. If you go downhill from the south exit there's a little camp. If you go a little bit downhill past the guard guys then go south a bit, you'll find a good challenge.

I am a sorcerer. Outside of healing, they seem to have the same spells. Ah, I see that I said miasma, I meant the tornado spell. It's my boss killer. I've never needed anything but fireball or lightning strike for the mobs. I didn't play tonight as I found a good book and that always trumps anything that isn't a main crpg.

To be honest Dragon's Dogma feels like a cheap knockoff of Titan's Quest, but it's still fun. The loot farming isn't nearly as well done. The pawns are meh to me. Grim Dawn is a better game, but not as purty.

Nah.. I'd take DD over those games any day of the week and twice on Sunday. :)

I might too, JDR. DDDA has something that makes you want to see what's over the next hill. I haven't been able to place my finger on what makes it addictive, as I've seen every single element of this game done better, but maybe not the total package.

I find pawns very, very meh. Almost any game has better companions. If I had control of all my pawn builds, I'd rate it much higher.

Even though the treasure is mostly meh, I look forward to every single "special" chest and I'm super excited if I find one. I always save/reload on the special chests trying to get a good item.

At what point is there better gear than the queen's dress? I've been wearing it since level 10 and I'm almost level 30 and haven't found anything comparable. I got a good roll on one of the BBI chests and ended up with a Grievous Horns archistaff at level 11. That has been my weapon till now. No new weapons or armor for my main for 20 levels. See, the treasure is meh, but I still love finding stuff.

I've got a little Bitter gear but when I tried to put some stars on it and compare with the (now dragonforged) queen's dress, it really wasn't even close. That's nearing level 60.

FYI - in a bug carried over from the console version, it seems that the mage inflection skill actually has the opposite effect, causing the mage to take MORE damage while casting a spell.

There's a mod to fix it but it's brand new and beta.

Sadly, gaming doesn't match real life in this case. ;)

Yeah, too bad we can't go into a body creator in real life and change whatever we don't like with a few mouse clicks :) Wrinkles...gone. Hair...restored. Age....young. Genitalia...!!!

Turned it on… To try.
And it crashed (freeze) on character creation when I changed character's eyecolor.
Upon restarting I'm supposed to play from the begining and go again into tedious fight against chimera because - checkpoints. I bet the game deliberately crashed so I have to grind my way through again, it's so fun to rince and repeat yea, rightr

Minus 1 to any overall score I'd give. I got so frustrated I don't have any will to replay the initial dungeon right away.
Bloody crapconsole savegame designs…

Y'know what? I'll restart and put the game on the easiest possible setting instead of default/normal. Will save me from more raging.

Or you could use the save game functionality. Hit ESC and look under the save/quit options. I presume that works in the initial dungeon, though I never tried it myself.

I was actually surprised by its stability. 95 hours, no bugs, glitches or crashes.

As for difficulty I wouldn't recommend easy and regret not choosing hard mode as normal is really easy. I haven't died once. I'm guessing it's overleveling from all the back and forth killing mobs that you do.

I'll be shocked if Joxer likes this game unless there's a no respawn mod somewhere.

I've had the game suddenly minimize on me a lot but that just puts it in pause mode so it usually isn't hard to recover from. I haven't heard anyone else yelling about it on the forums, though, so I'm guessing that's just my PC.

I'm about to replay an hour of exploration because of "superb" checkpoints garbage that doesn't exist in the first dungeon so I have to repeat it all again because of freeze.

I'll replay it on easy or if exists very easy because I just can't be arsed to accept the torture of crawling through the same "bah" part again. Will I up the difficulty later, depends on what happens next in the game. If it's even possible to change it later.

I'm not sure how it would work going from easy to normal but I tried to change to hard mid game and it gave me a warning that changing would make the game start over from the beginning but I would keep my gear or stats , something like that. I was too far in to be ok with starting over.

No, you're going to play through about 20 minutes of a tutorial because you just assumed the game had nothing but a checkpoint save system when, in fact, it lets you save anywhere outside of battles.

Finally done - 125 hours in and 110th level. I tried beating the second version of the Bitterblack Island final boss but, after half an hour, I had only done one health bar's worth of damage and lost my main pawn already. I really didn't want to switch back to Magic Archer and fight my way down there yet again so I went ahead and finished.

Is it just in my game or the loot from containers is random?!
