Drova – Forsaken Kin: Review

Drova – Forsaken Kin, an indie CRPG, offers a rich, choice-driven narrative in a beautifully designed Norse-inspired world.

If you asked me to describe Drova – Forsaken Kin with one word it would be “deep”, since it aptly describes many elements of the game. As the maiden title from Just2D, a six person indie studio out of Germany, it is astonishing how much there is to do and see in its beautiful, Norse inspired world. After an engrossing 30 plus hour playthrough, with a story shaped by my choices and finishing with one of multiple endings, I am left to wonder what other stories are yet to be told, secrets to be found, and consequences to be faced. I think it is safe to say that Drova – Forsaken Kin has a great deal to offer, and nearly all of it is absolutely brilliant!

Final Thoughts
Drova – Forsaken Kin is a fully realised, living world where you shape who you are as well as the world around you, a story that you can write again and again based on your decisions. The few flaws and bugs the game has are far outweighed by the cohesive nature of the game’s world and it’s mechanics. If you are a fan of cRPGs and similar games you must pick up Drova – Forsaken Kin.

Score: 8.5/10

If anyone here tries this one out I'd love to read more.
i'm playing it now for a second day, fun game if you can get pass the graphics.

Exploration is great, don't know if you played Gothic but basically it's the same thing lots of caves, ruins, mines and things to explore things to steal. Clearly devs were a huge fan of Gothic.

In Gothic you had a prison barrier that limited the map here there is asimilar thing, fog due to reason... So far no companions and i don't think there are any but factions can help you when you fight things.

Combat is ok. So far is basic cos most of the skills are still locked i'm only level 3.
Items like Traps, spells, potions make it a bit more tactical and you can do few things with them, killing enemies that you would normally have a hard time killing.

Writing is serviceable.

I decided to get this today. I actually love the pixel art graphics.

The game definitely doesn't hold your hand. Since I'm not much of an action RPG player I'm finding the combat pretty tough. I die a lot. But it's fun so far.

Well like in gothic you make your own difficulty. Basically everything is like it was in gothic except the graphics and combat is top down. You start with rats and Bloodfly Sting things and so on...
You go off the path and explore to much and things can get harder fast cos the armor system is tough.

And you have to start using traps, spells and pulling enemies one buy one using bleed poison. Heavy attacks and dodge play huge part as does breaking line of sight for range attacks.

If you stay around lower level things and level up slowly it's not hard at all in my opinion. But of course you gonna try to kill the big things or a guy with a fancy sword that will own your sorry ass after hahaha my poor pixels got owned.

The only thing that is a bit strange for me right now is how Dex works... Feels like it only give you more crit. Not sure it has any effect on range attacks damage. Will have to test that out a bit.

Now i just need to find a few Minecrawlers and my gothic fix is sated.

I'm not generally into pixel art games
yes i had the same problem. i see it as a big down side.

Nothing like picking between 20 hair or beard options when they are all basically the same 4 pixels (funny that they even tried to make so many lol)

i guess some people like pixel art. At least the game feels that it's more polished cos of the simple graphics.

Nothing like New Arc Line let say where i got the feeling that better graphics just kept the devs down in the muck of game development.
