Drova - Forsaken Kin - Review

Looks more like a Diablo than Gothic.
It's a lot more fun and challenging than Diablo (from what I remember anyway. Hated the first game so much I never touched the series again).

I haven't played Gothic so I can't say whether the comparison is accurate. What I can say is that I enjoyed the game immensely even though I'm generally not much of a action RPG fan. It will likely get my GOTY vote* (unless something amazing comes out within the next month).

*I've only played three new releases this year but I'd rank them:
1. Drova
2. SKALD
3. Mirthwood

I have to say, when it comes to RPGs, my GOTY is either Drova or Metaphor: ReFantazio. Currently, Drova has a user score of 96% on Steam, while Metaphor is at 90%.

For anyone considering playing this game, I highly recommend it. However, it might be worth waiting a bit, as they recently released a roadmap with something called the 'Feedback Patch,' which will add popular player-requested features like fast travel and easier NPC tracking

I generally do not like this art style, but I bought it after I had seen that it's primarily Gothic in 2D.

A couple weeks ago when the game released I was considering to give it a go, so I went to their Steam Discussion forums to find out something that matters to me: Can you play as a female character? There was a thread with a person asking this, and they were getting flamed and bullied simply for asking this question. The question was literally, if I remember well "Can you play as female?".

Not the game or the dev's fault, mind you, and I managed to find the answer between two pages of trolling and insulting, deleted posts and banned users. The thread had to be closed by the dev just a day or two later. It kind of reminded me of the DA: Veilguard review bombing, and how it feels things are just getting worse every day in that aspect around gaming. You can't ask if you can play a female without a bunch of idiots getting out the pitchforks and torches to burn you for the offense.

Anyway, little derail aside, I did end up getting Drova yesterday as the Fall of the Ashen Queen game is not fully grabbing me and Metal Slug 2 was shorter than I hoped. I do recommend, it's a very nice game. It's in a way very similar to Alaloth, but I suppose with a lot of charm and more engaging gameplay.
