Couchpotato spotted a new policy at Nexus Mods:

The Law and Adult Content

We wanted to give you all a heads-up that over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be making some changes to how things work on Nexus Mods in regards to Adult content, child safety online and our ongoing commitment to remove illegal content.

These updates are part of our legal obligation to comply with the UK government’s new Online Safety Act and the EU’s Digital Services Act, along with the guidance being issued by Ofcom (the UK’s regulator).

While we’re required to make these changes under new UK and EU laws, they also give us the opportunity to improve how content is managed on the site. These updates aim to give users more control, protect vulnerable audiences, and ensure Nexus Mods remains a platform that can support all types of content responsibly.

Why Are We Making Changes?

Due to the Online Safety Act and Digital Services Act, we are required as a UK-based company to ensure we continue to remove illegal content and add additional restrictions to children’s access to certain adult content.

As a business, this leaves us with a choice:

  • Remove adult content for all UK and EU-based users.
  • Make adjustments to our policy, including adding age verification for some adult content.
Adult content is a core part of what makes Nexus Mods what it is; we don’t consider removing it a viable option. We are aware that some users may find the changes irritating; however, we are obligated to do this to ensure we can continue to host adult content legally.

DarkOne, who until recently owned the site, quickly posted that the new owners are not to blame for this:
So yes, you can be worried or angry with the direction the internet is taking and the amount of control governments are enforcing on it around the world, but the law is the law, and Nexus Mods will, and must, follow the law.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of having to give identification to sites that I just download mods from (I'd prefer to ID on the internet as little as possible). But this is a law that's mostly a UK thing and it's coming to the EU in some way as well.

Good thing there's still something called VPN. I certainly don't plan to broadcast my RL details all over the web, least of all anyplace that offers adult material.
This is such a bad idea. If you don't want kids to access internet stuff, don't give them internet phones. It's easy as that.

Nothing new as half the states in the US require an ID for porn now.

As said don't blame the site blame your politicians. 🤷‍♂️

Your personal information is already on the internet. This is merely a small part in enhancing that AI data model - whether that be for commercial or surveillance purposes. Sounds paranoid, doesn't it? It ain't.

Will Nexus collect your identity then start selling your gaming information? Good luck with that.

I made nice money with my mods on Nexus. Recently withdrawn to my bank WOW! There are really serious mod developers there and judging from their download count - their mods got really famous - their forum for the mods sometimes have hundreds of posts, so they must make serious money???? Is it like Nexus gives them dollars per download count amount? Or mod makers only make money if people donate? I got the donate link couple times, when downloaded mods from there recently.

Regards adult stuff, IIRC i downloaded porn mods for Original Sin, but that game drowned in boredom, so I stopped playing. For Baldur's Hate 3 I also downloaded the enhanced sex scene mods and they have their buttons appearing on the UI. But I have not even clicked on them once, because there is so much to do I'm somehow not interested in watching any porn in BG3. Bodies are nice and detailed, shaders good and Shadowheart I consider attractive. Even spoke with her with my female character, but don't have time to properly push for romancing, since there is so many quests to do and enemies to kill and stuff to steal and LOOT. The mods even give buttons for instant sex scenes, but I never activated them after installing the mods.. Dunno. Have too much work these days, I'm snowed in. :(
