Gothic 1 Remake - Making Of #1

There's a split second of gameplay showing a new wall climbing mechanic, similar to most action games where your character can horizontally shimmy around a wall.
Looked kind weird to see that in a Gothic game. Plus, it looks like it will only be on certain walls, that have a special pattern highlight? Weird choice. Will see how it feels.

I can't support this game - not when Kai Rosencranz still hasn't honored his obligation and fulfilled his Kickstarter Project. It's not a great look to be honest. No contact at all with his fans to update what's been happening for years. I'm sure angrier fans could go even further with describing what this situation is like.

Furthermore, speaking purely selfishly from recent modern experiences with attempts to recapture classic gameplay (Underworld Ascendent and Bard's Tale IV especially) I wish developers would leave the old games alone and get some new ideas for once. Not begrudging people who feel the need to return to the setting with a modern coat of paint of course or experience an interpretation of it for the first time - as I love Gothic too. Luckily for me, good gameplay is good gameplay and I can easily go back and play the originals if I want.

To be fair, Underworld Ascendant and Bard's Tale IV were both very different situations. The former was a spiritual successor, and the latter a sequel that came too long after the originals. In both cases, they were too different from the original games. I don't see that being the case here.

Of course that doesn't mean it's going to be good, but I have a feeling we're going to find out sooner rather than later. I think they're dropping a demo at the end of the month.

I mean, I am mildly optimistic. I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. The world looks pretty enough, at least.
One thing I am missing is janky animations though: I can't imagine a Gothic game without it.

Sure. I don't claim they're equivalent cases but where they share context for me is in being modern iterations of IPs that I very much like. Similarly with this game, in all honesty I can't see it being particularly good and even necessary but I can't support it out of principle. I guess once the reviews come we'll see how different this game is.

As for the Kickstarter, I don't want a refund. I'm more than happy to be a sponsor for Kai for that time in his life. But honoring the people who did support him by at least offering some form of communication; even if it's short to just explain what's been happening. Otherwise it simply allows the inference charge of theft to be made. If people can overlook a somewhat peripheral connection like this so be it, I get it. But I simply can't.

Really? I could see it going either way. Why is it that you can't see it being good? Did you feel the same way about the System Shock remake before it was released?
