GTA / RDR Possible Remakes

The story and dialogue is usually what grabs me in GTA games. They range from decent to pretty good. Also the amount of effort that goes into building a city. I especially love the detail in the various radio stations. I remember laughing pretty hard at the various talks shows.

Vice City was especially good since it's basically a recreation of Scarface. And the music and setting is awesome. GTA 4 I never managed to get very far, though I liked it, since the Windows version was attrocious, especially with that shitty Games for Windows Live integration. I also remember it running like crap on not-so-powerful CPUs. I also never managed to finish 5. Though I found it hilarious, especially Trevor. He's amazing as a cartoon character.

One thing you cannot deny is the amount of work and effort that goes into their games. But the biggest of these is still Red Dead Redemption 2. That's one ginormous game with so much work put into it.

I'm really curios what they're cooking with GTA 6. It's bound to be a laugh.

I've always found the GTA series quite hollow, just a sandbox with poor memory (just do a 360 and the vehicles have changed) with a short story. It's fun to play in the sandbox, but it quickly becomes boring.

I could only play a little of RDR since it was a console game and I don't have a console, but I would probably given it a try if it had been ported to PC.
I played only GTA5 and share exactly the same impression.
The game got boring fast.
The story is like a bad script from Hollywood trash movies and you are playing an uber driver - luckily there are taxis to mitigate that boredom when you are not doing a so called random encounter where all are pretty much the same annoying rubbish.
Add to it horrible helicopter controls and I can't recommend that game to anyone.

RDR2 is even more boring.
Some say RDR1 was not that boring, but it's not on PC so I can't check.

In any case I am not buying another GTA game ever again.

EDIT:
Sorry, now I see I wrote this two months ago. Forgot.
Ah well… Won't delete the post.

Fwiw, RDR 1 is supposedly completely playable on PC via emulation now. I haven't tried it myself, but there are some YouTube videos where it looks really good running on RPCS3.

Based on the various articles I was correct they are remasters not remakes.
Yeah I could see Rockstar doing remasters as they are easier. Remakes on the other-hand are more costly as you have to redo the game from scratch in a new engine.
Rockstar’s collection promises “across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements” for all three games, “while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals.” Rockstar promises more details in the coming weeks, and warns that it will begin removing existing versions of those classic GTA games from digital retailers next week..
I don't know if this was posted here on RPGWatch. If it already was, sorry for repeating the info.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy will be removed from digital stores next week.

Yes, it's due to the upcoming remake.
Yep makes sense they want to push the newer versions across all platforms instead.

That is kind of the point of GTA series, it is thematically a satire of American pop culture. You are supposed to laugh with it, not at it.

Sadly I wasn't laughing at all.
Instead, I was rolling my eyes.

I mean, who wrote the stuff in GTA5? Kindergarden kids? No, I bet even younger kids did.

Marketing worth 250million and online casino sells.
And well, I stepped on the turd. Happens.
Won't do it again.

Yeah, I expect it simply means dual launchers like if you own an Ubisoft or Origin game on Steam.

Personally, I hate that. What's the point of having it on Steam if you still have to log in to their proprietary launcher? I guess it could matter to someone if they really care about the achievements, but I can't think of any other reason.

The games will of course use the rock star launcher which is their own online DRM, VMProtect, and of course Arxan Anti-Tamper. All three combined as usual once again.

I still remember the drunk effect if you used a crack with GTA 4 before it was fixed.

The most interesting rumor is that, like in the new part of the game, they want to do censorship

Honestly, remakes of the game interest me the least.
I really want to see and play a new part of the game, but so far, unfortunately, even the release date of the new part is not available. But there are a lot of rumors, and where there are rumors, there is some truth.

It's not the worst remaster I've seen, but it doesn't look like they did much with the models. Lighting looks nice though. I might get it just for Vice City.

Yeah, and apparently they really want us to pay through the nose. 60$ for the whole trilogy, and I assume you can't buy them individually. And so they got themselves a full price AAA game sold again. Kinda sucky of them, imo. I would have imagined 30$ tops.

Yeah, I definitely won't be paying $60. I guess it could be worthwhile to fans of the series, but I was never that into GTA. I just liked cruising around Vice City once in awhile and listening to some tunes.
