Kevin Conroy, the man behind the gravelly bass voice of Batman and who popularized that unmistakable growl that separated Bruce Wayne from the Caped Crusader, has died, according to his representative Gary Miereanu. He was 66.

That's too bad. I never really got into the animated series. I was probably too old by then. The batmen of my childhood were Adam West on TV and Michael Keaton in the theater.

My son cut his detective teeth on this show, and I used to watch it with him. Conroy's voice and mannerisms totally nailed both Wayne and Bats for me, he'll be missed. RIP.
