Larian Studios - The Greatest Comeback In Gaming

Well their problems were not their doing in the first place so the amount shit they had to go through from publishers was funny.
Too bad they are effected by Larianism sometimes. hehehe

Yeah publishers and lack of funding is what almost killed the developer. I'm glad they went independent and released three major selling RPGs. Can't wait to play their next game.

Though it's to bad we'll never see another ARPG like the first Divinity games.

yeah but i have a feeling they gonna move out of TB waters with one IP.

Swen has a beef with industry cos of the shit he had to take in the past.
I feel like he needs to do this things so he can sleep at night.

We gonna get a witcher 3 like game i can smell it coming from a miles away and now his got the money to do it.

Whatever they plan, it has the potential to be something great. They are the developer I set the highest hope on at this moment. :smitten:

I would be surprised if they did another action games since they never wanted to do it in the first place and were forced to go action based by the publisher.

Were they actually ever in trouble?
Yes try to watch a few older documentaries or presentations from Swen.

Your looking for ones before Original Sin.

The video jumps over a MAJOR thing right away.
Because before Divine Divinity there was LMK, Lady Mage & Knight, which was a "The Dark Eye" game made together with the publisher Attic. And this game apparently was very close to release. And it was already praised as "the big thing" which will bring European RPGs into the spotlight. The european version of Baldurs Gate.
But it never happened. And I am pretty sure that this cause some problems for Larian though I dont know any details. I think Divine Divinity is basically based upon the leftovers of the project, but not sure. And they were also basically forced to use that silly name.

Well, I wouldn't call it exactly "funny" ... Ask those who had been there, then ...

And, yes, I do remember LMK .. I even played the demo on a computer fair ... I think, on the Divinity box there are some thibngs about it ... But it's been years since I looked into that box, so I don't remember anything well anymore ...

I still remember having a game magazine (most likely the German PC Joker) with some LMK concept art on the front page and an extensive articel about it. I sooo much wanted to play this game. Ah, well...

Before dos 2 and dos Swen was online abit talking about things and people didn't even know who he was...

Forgot the name of it but for a few years he even had a blog with a tiny community where he would reply to questions we had.

Well they have the money now and they seem to not want to dumb down their games just to try to appease and please everyone, like loads of devs do nowaday in the chase.

So it feels like core RPG elements will survive in their games and respect the player intellect.

That is what rpgs need, hard core Rpg elements as seen in BG 3, no matter what kind of combat it is.

That was www.lar.net but looks like it’s down/broken now, sad... Was still up a year or two ago, but hadn't been used since Larian became big with D:OS1.

Intro cinematic, gameplay footage and a very young Swen Vincke.
Thanks for sharing!

The video is a bit weird though, with lots of...well, maybe not mistakes but...misunderstandings? ^^
1:03 Yes, they published Druidenzirkel. It's a bit misleading Druidenzirkel is by attic. I think it comes from the cooperation with SirTech. It was developed by Synthetic Dimensions.
0:05 Yes. they are mostly known for the "Das Schwarze Auge" RPGs (realms of Arkania). It's a bit funny though that they show a boardgame adaptation. A bit like a company being famous for Warhammer games and then showing the Star Crusade Board game.
The narration also mentiones a couple of times that it's DSA4, the successor to the other 3 games, which...isn't completely incorrect but...I mean they dont meantion it's a different team.
Also it sounds like Sven was working in Germany. I don't know whether that's true or not, but I guess he was just visiting the publisher attic, and apparently they also took over some of the work there (graphics).
