Legendary Journeys is now available on Steam Early Access. A demo will be available this weekend on Steam.

A group of friends seeking adventure in their uneventful lives get exactly what they crave when a man bursts through their local tavern and collapses with a note and a strange utterance on his dying breath. Immerse yourself in a world of high fantasy and adventure as you lead this group from their small village to the distant shores of Umbrea and other lands in the world of Farmoor to find out what the dying man's words meant.

  • Large world to explore
  • Non-linear adventure
  • Party of four that you create from Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Dwarf, Half-Orc, and the mysterious Khoth
  • Choose from 10 classes such as the necromancer, death knight, and monk
  • Choose how your characters develop within their chosen class
  • Turn-based combat to give you time to plan (and for those moments you need to step-away)
  • First person party (blobber) free-roaming movement
  • A throw-back to the late 90s crpgs while adding some of the modern crpg features
  • PDF Manual
  • Printable world map
More information.

Sounds good! It's a shame the trailer doesn't show a bit more - the landscapes in the trailer are pretty atmospheric, but having sight of a bit of combat or a character screen would have been nice. I had a quick look at the Steam page and the feedback in the forum is encouraging, as are the Dev's responses. I've bought it in support, not sure when I'll get a chance to play it at the minute but I'll post some thoughts when I have.

There are videos of combat on Steam, among others.

I enjoy these kind of games if they are done right. Lots of exploration and items, good character advancement with different skills and perks to choose from and interesting dungeons.

This looks pretty good and for $10 what the hell, I will roll the dice and hope I come up with an 18 Luck. ;)

Played for a few hours this morning. You know what, I'm enjoying it. Is definitely early access. Seems like they have a lot of weapon and armor upgrades and plenty of skills that you level up. Combat is deadly and have had people die right away. The map is huge and I have completed the first few quests.

There is crafting and went to an alchemy trainer. Has a Might and Magic vibe to it. Combat is ok but spells can fizzle and there are blocks and misses. I like that. My dragon death knight can breath lightning and harm touch. Classes and races have some unique skills.

After I was done playing I was looking forward to try the first dungeon.

Looks like I'm the only one not impressed here. The game seems empty af and movement looks pretty slow. Not interested at all.

lol it does look basic, but at the same time appears to have a lot of elements of what I have been missing in games for a bit. The first person party (like wizardry 8! noice!), and free movement instead of boxy movements are good features. Action bars for each character, and good old tried and true fantasy tropes. The old fantasy tropes, while old, are not necessarily what needs changing in a lot games, and fantasy games with magic and melee are a great way to play an RPG.

(Once guns were invented, melee was really obsolete, except as a backup, and modern games that feature melee as a significant viable specialist option in a post-gun situation I find to be a little unrealistic.)

I am definitely looking at this game.

I do hope they bring back those wizardry 8 like voices! Geez I loved those voices.

It would be great to be able to choose a voice AND a personality to go with a voice over.

His game is luring people into thinking he can code. :D

On Topic. I decided to support this too. It's really basic and it's obvious the guy isn't a native English speaker, but the engine elements are already there to be a decent game if he keeps working at it. Blobbers are rare, so I'll invest a McDonald's meal into the chance that this becomes something.

Pros:
Lots of race/class combos.
You don't automatically hit every time. In fact, you suck at level one.
Even the beginning area has quite a bit to do.
Feels like Teen Spirit, I mean Might and Magic VI
You can buy skills from Trainers if you have the gold.
Alchemy is a thing and so is a wound system. For instance, if your mage has a concussion, he better get ready to swing his staff because those spells are gonna fizzle.

Cons:
No mini-map and the game world will be massive like MM6. I assume this is on the agenda, but he hasn't said.
Graphics aren't very crisp. It really doesn't look any better than those old MM/Wiz games.
Can't climb steps; yet.
Too many race/class combos are unsurvivable early game. For instance an Elven Thief typically has 3-5 hp but will take 9+ dam from many early mobs.
The UI is horribly inefficient and cumbersome. This is a deal breaker for many folks and needs to be addressed ASAP.

To me, it's good enough to support, but not good enough for me to recommend to non-blobber lovers.

Hello all! I'm the developer of Legendary Journeys.
Yes, English is my native language. Yes, I can code - that's been my profession for 20 years now :)

To some of crpgnuts cons - game is early access and rough around the edges. A mini map is on the agenda. Making sure all builds are viable (able to complete main quest) is in the agenda.
This will take some time. EA is planned for 12-18 month period.

Crpgnut has been helpful suggestions and bug reports along with others. I want to say thanks for that. And thanks for RPGWatch for putting this on their radar.

Feel free to ask any questions

I picked this up, played it a little bit. It has potential, but it needs some more time "in the cooker" - the UI is horrid. I was trying to figure out how to drag and drop items from my inventory onto my character slots; some just refused to be moved.

The graphics are fine for what it is, an old school blobber.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one now that it's in my Steam library.

I never took 'nut for a fellow blobber lover… I just might be able to to forgive his years of Bethesda love!:x

Looking forward to trying this when I have time; a man cannot survive on a diet of Wiz 8, M&M 6+7+10, and Starcrawlers forever!

Yep, poking fun at a guy here who claims to be a developer but has never shown one iota of product in years :)

Glad to see you popped in DevDude ;)

This looks right up my alley, though I might wait a bit for things to percolate. Hope development continues apace :whip:

BlindMonkeyGames do not read!

I couldn't be an indie dev because:

15 people on the discord and another handful of posts on Steam. I have basically been the only guy posting on discord and I have about 1/3 of the posts on Steam too. I hope the blindmonkey is coding his @$$ off or this may die before it ever lived and that would be too bad. How do you self promote on your discord and code at the same time? Hard job.

I hope he knocks it out of the park and gets a nice reward at the end because it seems impossible to me. However, a handful of guys do both jobs really well and end up being rewarded in the long run. I'd have a heart attack.

@crpgnut; - too, late! Already read your response.

Don't worry about it dying. This isn't paying the bills. If it was, yeah, I would be pushing this a lot harder then I am. Truthfully, the game is already a success in my book. Someone played it and like it! Anything else is a bonus.

Regarding the drag-n-drop of equipment, if the character can't use the item at that time, you can't drag-n-drop the item. Limitation of the framework that I am using. I would have preferred a message of some sort. I'll see what I can do.
