Nice. I know the original gets mixed reviews, but for me personally it's one of my favorite non AAA souls like.

I found the first one to be mediocre at best. I made it to the final boss which was a terribly designed slog imo. It's got serious HP bloat and you have to chase it around a big arena filled with water that impedes your movement. It has normal attacks, sends a bunch of waves at you and then summons several guys to chase you around. I fought it twice about 15 minutes each and got it down to a sliver on my second try before dying. I didn't want to go through the fight again at that moment and quit thinking i'd come back to finish it but I just never did. Every time I thought of finishing it I decided nah, I'll play something else.

The second one does look better though. I'll check out some gameplay videos and will decide if I want to give it a try.

The first one was just too hard for me, and I say that as a soulslike veteran. I hit an area I couldn't progress through and it didn't have the usual soulslike options to try something else and come back later. So I never got to see a lot of what the game had to offer.

I loved Mortal Shell 1 - one of my favourite action adventures. Played the beta and bought on Epic (it was exclusive) and then bought it again on GoG. Short, replayable with different shells and styles, great atmosphere and interesting world and NPCs. The combat mechanics are different with each weapon and shell having different weights and style, and the hardening mechanics was also an exciting game changer.

Surprising to hear that people bounced off Mortal Shell 1 and found it difficult. I think its one of the easy action adventures that I played (only struggled with some of the bosses). It nowhere as hard as Dark Souls and maybe people should approach it as an action adventure rather than soul-like to understand and enjoy it.

Can't wait to join the beta for Mortal Shell 2.

I would agree it’s one of the easier soulslikes, but I’d say it’s definitely harder than your average action adventure game. The final boss wasn’t necessarily hard it just wasn’t fun either and was too long of a fight.

Difficulty is different for everyone though. I remember trying demon souls and hating it because it was so hard. Then after playing DS1,2 and 3 I went back and played demon souls and found it laughably easy. All the exploits and strategies I learned in the souls games worked like a charm in demon souls.

I’d say demons souls is the easiest souls/soulslike I’ve played and Kahzan is by far the hardest.

I'm really bad at parrying and I think in shell it was really important to time the turn to stone ability properly, which was essentially a parry (?). At least that's my best guess for why I found it so hard. I've completed multiple Souls games but couldn't make a dent in this.

I also was really bad at Sekiro.

If you’re bad at parrying and found mortal shell and Sekiro hard, stay far, far away from Kahzan.

Guess a million sales and mixed reviews are good enough for a sequel. 🤷‍♂️

Me too, I also struggled with Sekiro. I found hardening in Mortal Shell easier as I can see the enemy as they attack and don't need precise timing to harden and avoid damage.
