This kind of came out of nowhere. While it's a great reason to revisit NWN2 (especially Storm of Zehir, don't shoot me), it would sure be nice to see a list of what was done and a side-by-comparison. My swiss cheese memory can't spot anything different aside from Steam Workshop and Steam Deck support.

Yeah, me too. It seems the UI is different and they say they improved the camera control (which was a huge issue in the original)...
But I am excited nonetheless. NWN 2 used to be my favorite game of all time. I just wish it was a proper remake, not a remaster. I would be awesome if it was fully voice acted with improved visuals (and maybe a turn-based combat option??? :sweatdrop: ).....

The game has had a lot of mod improvements released over the years (armor reskins, better character models, better AI, bug fixes, new animations), so perhaps those have been incorporated? One would hope it includes better support for higher-poly models and a loosening of built-in mod limitations and index ranges, but I suspect it probably doesn't. The release will do much better if it includes support for persistent settings.

Yeah, it's certainly not the same Beamdog that I knew, back in the days when I lived in Edmonton. Still, I'll likely get this one at some point, I'm a sucker for these.

I really hated how camera "worked" in original game. If this is addressed Im getting it for sure.

It's going to have Steam Workshop, so you can bet that most of those mods will get updated for this version. Assuming they're still needed.

"Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2" sounds so weird.

Why didn't it get remastered by Beamdog, by the way?

Btw, I did some digging and I foud out that the company doing this remaster (Aspyr Media) acquired Beamdog a couple of years ago.
Beamdog has already said they have nothing to do with this when this leaked a few months ago.

Trent & Co. years ago stated they don't know much about it though they did backport some ideas from Witcher and other engine changes - famously the NUI is built off of the custom font overlay.

Aspyr has experience with nwn2 because they were the ones who ported it to the Mac.

In the discussions, the NWN1 Dev volunteers are still trying to figure out of there's going to be custom server host like gamespy. They did spot some manifests but that only means you can host.

It's been upgrade to DirectX11 which is a requirement for Windows 10 and Steam, so that's a given.

That textures have been upgraded but it looks like its only an AI upscale, namely for smoothness.

```Key Features:
Gather Your Party: Assemble a team of your friends across any and all platforms with fully supported crossplay. Together, embark on an epic journey governed by the Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 ruleset.
Become a Legend: Make your mark on the Realms as you play your way through over 100 hours of immersive gameplay and four unique campaigns, each as expansive as the Bag of Holding.
Or a Dungeon Master: Bring your pen-and-paper campaign to life! Craft your own solo or multiplayer D&D adventures or explore the creations of others.
A Relic, Restored: Everything you loved about Neverwinter Nights 2 has been preserved. Enjoy smoother gameplay with refined camera controls, polished mechanics, enhanced textures, and full controller support with a newly designed controller-specific UI.
Also comes with all expansions.
Any other inside info on this version? They haven't provide much of anything outside of "improved visuals".
I hope it supports ultrawide resolutions and that the UI can adjust. Otherwise it's fine with me. Even if the graphics are not that improved.
Somehow I missed this part from you post.
So, maybe there's a chance for the rest I wanted.
A relic restored is still a relic but good news for all the fans who love to still play it, hopefully (not sure if it will cause more of an issue from mods and a schism like what happened with Skyrim LE and Skyrim SE/AE). I loved the old NWN games, 1 and 2, and have fond memories of playing them ages ago but no wish to return to them. Not with so many newer games being made.
Sounds like another low effort and small funded remaster. Personally the original version runs well on new and old PC's. They couldn't even finish the KoTor Remaster.
Old mods should be compatible as NWN Ehanced was. As the only files that needed to be converted we're the mod videos. If not well just another reason not to buy.
I would think that most of the people who worked on those mods, years ago, have moved on...
Believe it or not there is still a community of people working on mods for NWN2. Many of them are capable of fixing and updating existing mods. They have their own discord channel.
Have wishlisted to see how what the final product looks like. My NWN2 + mods + client thingie install still works fine for me so no great rush.
I can see a console-ised UI being a bit of minus if you have to use it but otherwise the rest of it seems fairly normal "enhanced" edition stuff,, nothing earth shattering but nice to see.
Sure but your not allowed to touch another modders creation without their approval.
You also have to give them credit or the mods will be taken down. 🤷‍♂️
Sure, but you can release modified version of said mods, as long as the license allows (and most of them do, at least for NWN/NWN2).
