Sorry about the double post but the Q&A mentioned it's on track for release this year. If so that's true its very surprising given the lack of updates, and has me worried.

I almost forgot about this game. I applied to be a beta-tester, but they wanted more personal information than I was willing to give them. I hope they release a demo for it.

This looks at least half interesting compared to most things nowadays...

Ugh the cards at 1:25.
Ugh!!!! I have a pathological loathing of cards in games - what a bummer, looked interesting otherwise.
(I think I was traumatized by being forced to play rummy with an elderly lady next door when I was kid...I can't remember anything more than that )

The cards appeared to be for dialog checks only or maybe I'm reading it wrong.
The cards are a spells that can be used to reduce difficulty in dialog check. So nothing to be worried about.
There is written that you can get them in depths of magical portal.

Your parents were bored so they put you to play with her? :)

Something like that - she lived alone and I think she enjoyed having some company, so I was sent along...I just remember really disliking cards (which she loved...) Anyway...yep, if its just some dialog thing that fine - presumably 'magic cards'....

I'm free of card-phobias, so looking forward to it. It looks good so far.

Funny people complain about minimal card mechanics but yet loved BG3 for it's insane RNG dice system. Well as long as it not a full fledged deck builder game I'm fine with it.

Have you played Gloomhaven? That’s my prime example of a card-based system and why I don’t like it. It is deck building with level ups but basically each stage you’re limited to the cards you have and burn them when you select them. It sounds straightforward but is a quite difficult single player game. In the small amount I played it, the cards are some combo or split of looting, moving, healing, redrawing, and attacking. Each character has a very different strategy.

I should also say for Gloomhaven: for the amount I played, the card draws weren’t random; you effectively were eliminating that action (usually) from future use. So the RNG dice example you gave doesn’t hold by comparison.
