The Turn Based Lovers checked out SOF: Enemy from the Future:

XCOM-LIKE TACTICAL STRATEGY - SOF: ENEMY FROM THE FUTURE - OVERVIEW

I know everyone is eagerly waiting for what now seems like an increasingly unlikely announcement of XCOM 3. However, to be honest, there are a few alternatives to kill time and/or distract ourselves from the future of the Firaxis series. Today, in fact, I'm introducing another strategy RPG that can genuinely be tagged as XCOM-Like.

It's called SOF: Enemy from the Future, developed by QuadCom Interactive--the same team behind Ram Pressure. Set in a world invaded by an alien threat from a parallel universe, players command a Special Forces squad from the Russian Federation.

The game combines strategic base management with intense tactical combat missions, challenging players to complete diverse tasks like sabotaging enemy infrastructure and rescuing hostages. Unique skill combinations and a Jagged Alliance-like precision targeting system, allow for varied and dynamic gameplay.

There is a demo version available so you can try the game, while Early Access is expected for August 2024 on PC via Steam. Below, you can find an overview with screens and a Trailer.

Kudos on labelling this game as a non-RPG. It feels like a little, pointless victory, but a victory afterall!

Next step, start calling games like The Witcher "Story-Driven Action-Adventure" instead of RPGs. One step at a time, we'll call things by their name.

On the game itself, it looks interesting, I might pick it up.

Looks good and I don't care how it's labeled as most labels are misleading nowadays.

I'll continue to call games like Witcher III cinematic RPGs.

We can thank BioWare for making them popular.

Anyway i just sent the link in cause a lot of us like tactical strategy games.

A Russian XCOM with one of the most derivative titles I've ever seen. Why not?

Installing the demo...

It's true, labels are another way of marketing these days, and in any case, it's not like a game being a RPG makes the game better. It just makes it a RPG. Plenty of great games that aren't RPGs.

By BioWare making them popular you mean from Mass Effect series and such, I imagine, to me their older games were some of the best actual RPGs of their time.

Thanks for sharing regardless, it had gone under my radar and now I got it bookmarked so I can follow its progress. We'll see how it turns out.

Tried the demo. It's like a Russian-jank version of Xenonauts. I uninstalled it after a few minutes. There might be something there if you don't mind the Russian voice-acting and low production values, but it's not for me.
