Why stop there? Set sail toward the setting sun, keeping the open sea on your left hand. After three or four days' journey, if the winds are fair, you will find the lands where the rivers sing of wide fields and Saxon tongues. There, there you may teach the law of the Danes.

i guess this is Xcom with a viking spin. Could be ok. But class variety would be low i guess due lack of magic.

Wish them good luck viking games can be a hard sell. Looks good i guess no real gameplay yet so at this point it's just a name.

I wonder how much time we'll have to spend on the community management aspect. What if I just want to rape and pillage?

They aren't kidding when they say teaser trailer. Not much to go on there. I'll wait for more info.

Warrior, Beserker, Skald, Mystic, Shieldmaiden, Huscarl/Jarl. Plenty of variety I think!

yeah i wish, we can add a bunch hehe seer, vovla, warlord, housecarl, runemaster, hunter,... but those are just names that mean little if there is no spells casting and diversity in game.
hopefully you are right.

Kinda like Expeditions... Story/Plot? After playing AC: Valhalla I'm pretty muck viking-ed out o_O
The cutscenes reminded me of similar scenes in Norway in Valhalla. Im afraid that it will be focused more on tactical combat and building and less on story, so not exactly like Exp Viking.

Well I mean Xcom had no magic either and still had reasonable diversity. Granted there was probably some room for improvement there. But especially for a squad game, most magic type abilities can easily be replaced with a non-magical equal. A warlord can follow the cleric role, providing healing and buffing. You can easily have a character specialized in bleeds and debuffs or an archer who rains arrows across the field in AoEs. Often it's more of a question of whether you are focusing on realism or cool strategic abilities.

In sci-fi games, you can pretty much replace magic by technology.

It's when you want to make a game more "realistic" and/or "historically accurate" that it gets more complicated.
