Only 400 active users?

I for one would like to see more. All the empty threads and posts that go unresponded to are a bit of a bummer.
As a former news-poster I agree, but facts show a lot of news-posts rarely received more then one reply. Guess many don't care about certain games.

As for the Codex I will never register or post on that site, but I do check it for news.

We get you don't like RPG Watch, but keep in mind alternative opinions are available…I know that RPG Codex, and many who post there, seem to have a sizable ego about their site's importance and influence, but maybe, just maybe, they don't hold the Ultimate Truth when it comes to rpgs.
If they'd really felt their site's important and influential they would not come here on a regular basis and feel the need to tell us how important and influential they are.

I do enjoy the Codex retrospectives, reviews and some of their threads on things like "rpgs before 1995 that stood the test of time", "Overlooked indies" .. etc.

No, we find those too simplistic for our tastes, if we'll discuss porn games, those better be nasty. No as kinky as possible orgies = shovelware.

Have a look through the Codex refugee thread, and the helpful tags applied. There a few people who are on the codex and post here in a worthwhile way, but generally, as a group, people come here to act the prick. By default, no-one's going to take you very seriously.

Been here for 10+ years. Still enjoy it. Have seen some old ones leave and some new ones come.

Of course, it would be nice if everyone stayed for long, but people have different lives.

I tried the Codex and so many threads mean nothing that I stopped lurking there.

We used to get a lot more devs. I think when we required logins to post on news most of them disappeared. I know some of them just lurked.

I don't know why we don't get more. Us old farts have more cash than the 12 year olds the dark and gritty mature games are aimed at.

I'm an old fart who likes me some dark and gritty mature RPGs. Although more than that I like trying new things. I want to see RPGs done in never before or least seldom seen settings and those that experiment with new gameplay mechanics. Which I suppose is why I'm drawn more and more to indie RPGs. Not expecting representatives of big studios to post here (nor do I even want them to) but the amount of indie RPG developers seems too low. And I think part of the problem is when they do post in the indie rpgs forum, very often no one really even replies to their threads. We should perhaps make more of an effort to engage with them… even it's just to say "hey this looks pretty cool" or whathaveyou.

Sure, there's some dull, generic indie fantasy RPGs. Balrum is a good example of that and I personally have no interest in it. But there's also some really interesting stuff. Sacred Fire, Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones, and Amazing Fantastics are a few games recently posted about here that stand out to me personally.

Of course we all have different tastes and I'm probably not going to be interested in a hack 'n slash ARPG even if it has an unusual setting or looks exceptionally well made. But I'd think others would.

Anyway I never claimed every indie RPG in development is exciting and new, but there's certainly seems to be more interesting indies than all of the AAA shooter sims and walking simulators masquerading as RPGs. Yet the big stuff tends to get more comments in the news posts simply because it is well known studios and franchises….

This year we will see the release of Torment: ToN, Expeditions: Viking, Copper Dreams, Vigilantes, possibly Graywalkers: Purgatory, Prisonscape, Age of Grit, and some others…. Yet with the exception of Torment I'm not sure many people will discuss them here. And that's the problem that I'm talking about. For whatever reason most Watchers aren't really inclined to discuss anything but the big releases. And not saying it has to be praise… Constructive criticism has value I think.

I have seen quite a bit of discussion on Torment, Expeditions Vikings and Sacred Fire.

For the rest, I haven't and I get your point, but I do not think it is something you can force really.
