Visionary Realms posted two new updates for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen this week. The first post talks about an updated game Atlas.

Updated the atlas of Terminus. The map now shows some of the areas and names that are either complete or under development.
The second post shares a few Screenshots of the improved GUI.

Here are some new very-in-progress screenshots, including the first glimpse at our new but VERY early (but semi-functional) UI. You can also see some gameplay going on if you read through the text box. If you have any questions as to what you are seeing, let me know. We're making some serious progress and having a blast of time doing it. Enjoy!
More information.

It's kind of sad that (for me) this is the only hope for the MMORPG genre. A genre that was once among the best in gaming that's been flushed down the toilet by corporate greed and turned into massively single player online social media idiocy featuring ultra dumbed down and idiot mode gameplay for the masses for the most part, along with increased levels of cheese and built-in cheating (cash for gold has gone from being a bannable offense thru 3rd parties to being built-in to pay to play games like WildStar).

Sad because while Brad has the right mindset and ideals for MMORPGs - grouping, challenge, danger, and was involved in the golden age of MMORPGs (his company/vision made EverQuest, the grand daddy of them all), he also has this legacy of fail or just not nailing it that has followed him everywhere since EQ, and what the genre really needs is a heavy hitting ultra high quality "classic" MMORPG (featuring grouping, not damn soloing and challenge instead of of pampering ADD children), not a low budget half assed game that given his track record will likely never actually be finished or whole, especially with the lack of funding and struggles to get funded.

Maybe Notch loves classic MMORPGs and will do something. Please Notch? Fund/create a real MMORPG?

I'd love to see Brad pull this off but the odds would seem to be against him more than ever. If he can get/keep funded and not have any corporate overlords influencing design it will be interesting to see what he pulls off but I fear that people just do not get excited for or interested in simplistic/low impact MMORPGs the same way they'll latch on to non-MMO indie games that are high quality but lack the AAA production. He'll have to really hit it out of the park with combat, character, story, gameplay, content, etc to be successful with low budget presentation.

Once Pantheon is up and running, and word of mouth starts getting around, I believe it will be a success. There's already enough support simply on the boards alone, and that is only going to swell once the product exists. I've kicked in a couple of times so far, and I'll do so again, because I plan on playing this.
