Interesting why they return to first PoE now.
Wander if they consider returning to the genre.

Didn't this have turn based from the start? Or was it Kingmaker with original realtime converted into turns?
Oh..:
Turn-based mode is an alternate mode of combat in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. It was added to the game as a beta in patch 4.1 and later finalized in patch 5.0. It reworks the games existing combat mechanics to function in a turn-based style of play (like
Looking at the large octopus monster, no I definitely didn't play this. So which game is better? II: Deadfire or I: PoE?

Also one of these games had horrible problem with combat visibility later as the party got bigger characters tended to jumble up in a small place making combat A TOTALLY non-overseeable mess.

Got the message that PATHWAY is on SALE, so I checked out the combat and I'm more hyped for that now:

Wrath of the Righteous had both RTwP and TB from the start. Kingmaker and PoE2 were RTwP on release, got TB later.

So which game is better? II: Deadfire or I: PoE?
Personally I thought the first game was somewhat better.

And I prefer the second one. They are very different in terms of overall atmosphere and tone.

A mystery why they return to this game after so many years. Well, probably a labour of love for them.
Anyway, I tried PoE 2 in turnbase mode and it didn't work for me at all. There were simply too many trash mobs that can be wiped away in a few seconds in RTwP but take a few minutes in TB.

True - trash mobs are good for RtwP but for more complex fights, with careful spell placement etc, I wanted TB. Had the same experience in PF:K and WotR.... I do think though that if a game is designed for RTwP, making it TB is never quite as good as it should be.

Well you can always use RTWP for those encounters as you can change modes at will.

Possibly they saw increased sales of PoE II from the addition of turn-based mode. Yes I'd like to see an isometric PoE III, but considering that Avowed is less than a year old, that seems unlikely.

Whoa, that is pretty cool. Surprising they are doing this work on such an older game. This will definitely give me a good reason to go back to Pillars and try to finish the game. I had played it for around 10 hours a long time ago, and kinda got bored with it. But turn-based combat is a major preference of mine.

I really enjoyed when they implemented TB mode in PoE2, so it's very likely I will do a PoE1 playthrough with this once it's stable and more or less bug free.

Don't really care but hey good on those few low paid interns for finishing the project.

Anyway this doesn't mean they are working on a new game or even interested in a new game. It's just something they promised that took over 5+ years to release.

I don't really consider this a old/classic game by any stretch of the imagination. And after the success of the second game getting similar treatment, I can only hope the first also sees a surge of secondary sales.
