RIP Gene Hackman

I know it wasn't "his" film. But I'm surprised that "No Way Out" hasn't been brought up yet. One of my favorite films, and he was amazing in it.

RIP Gene.

They keep playing Hoosiers. I am in no way interested in Basketball nor a Basketball movie. lol.

Reports back say his pacemaker last recorded something on Feb 17th so that is the working theory.
Also reports, and I'm not sure if this is accurate or just a rumour the press is repeating, that it's possible the wife hit her head and fell to the floor trying to get his heart mediation to him.

Yeah Hoosiers isn't one of the ones I gravitate to myself, and I've never been a fan of that particular sport. Other friends and family love it though, so I'll always watch it if someone else wants to, in the end it still has Hackman.

Wow. The timeline for Gene and his wife's death is very disturbing. She apparently died on February 11 from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a severe respiratory illness. Gene died days later on February 18 from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease based on the last signal from his pacemaker. He was in an advanced state of Alzheimer’s and it is quite possible he was not aware she was deceased. She was his primary caregiver, and he relied on her to administer medication for his heart condition.

So sad.

Yeah, seems they'd both retreated from the public some time ago. Honestly I don't think it's a bad thing, I mean, up until recently that's simply how humans passed, as we didn't all live on top of one another. As long as it was their collective choice and no one forced them into that form of existence, I see nothing wrong with it. And I can easily think of far more disturbing ways to check out these days.

Just a sad end. You would have hoped that they'd have a housekeeper at minimum, after decades of top-notch film roles. To fade away like that and be forgotten, tragic. Next up on the chopping block of mortality, Mel & Clint :(

Was thinking Mel Gibson at first, but he's only 69. You mean Mel Brooks I guess?

Going to be a sad day when Clint is gone. David Lynch level.

Mel still seems pretty feisty to me, but you never know. I think we'll be saying goodbye to Bruce Willis long before.
Not to be morbid but I think we've already said good bye to Bruce Willis even if his body is still functional.

Don't disagree that it's not necessarily a bad thing. It's the thought of him wandering around the house for days after his wife died with no understanding that she was dead that I find disturbing. Existing in a home with the corpse of your wife without realizing she's a corpse...that's the stuff of nightmares. I recently lost my Mom to Alzheimer's, and watching her "devolution" in the final couple of years... Well, I don't wish that on anyone.

That's who I thought he was talking about (Gibson), hence my reply, but yeah, Mel Brooks obviously makes more sense.

True, sadly. Val Kilmer too or at least the the guy he used to be.

Yes, Mel Brooks is turning 99 this year. And his good friend with whom he would have dinner with nightly, Carl Reiner, died some years back.

Algorithm fed me this video, it's worth the watch if you were a fan of Gene's work:

I view Val's situation different. I mean mechanically he can't act as he used to but at least he knows who he is et all... unless something has changed.

I always viewed self awareness as the pillar to life but that is just myself.

True. At least he can still lead a mostly normal life even if his acting career is pretty much over.

I still feel really bad for him though. To go from being an A-list celebrity to being almost unrecognizable must carry a heavy toll.

The only point I'll disagree on is that they had three dogs, one of which apparantly was stuck in a crate until it died of dehydration. That's a horrible way to die for any living thing.

Oh indeed I agree, when one has pets one has to assume full and clear care of their being. And if I had pets at that advanced of an age, I would have safeguards in place. A cautionary tale for sure.
