Nichelle Nichols, Lt. Uhura on 'Star Trek,' dies at 89

Nichols broke ground and paved the way for Black actors in Hollywood as Uhura. Her castmate George Takei wrote, "We lived long and prospered together."

Sad news. There's not much of TOS cast left at this point. She lived a good life though. I had no idea she was 89! RIP Lieutenant Uhura.

I was fortunate enough to be involved with a certain Star Trek convention some years ago, and got to meet many of the folks involved, and Nichelle Nichols twice. She was super kind, always beaming with a grin that could light up a room, and that's how I'll remember her, always.
