RIP Richard Simmons

Sad end to great life. My mother was a fan of his workouts before he disappeared from the public. From his last interview he went a little crazy and was disabled from an injury.

Its not such a surprise he became such a recluse given how almost unrecognizable he was. He was already a little bit crazy then just went over the deep end.

Not sure if you're serious, but that pic is of Ruth Westheimer.

Gosh, that seems awfully young for someone that truly focused on his health. RIP
He was but he had a very sad life according to his interviews and close friends.

Is that supposed to be him? That's Dr. Ruth.
I was confused by that too at first, but I just realized that she also passed away (the day before Simmons). Lucky Day probably should have mentioned that.

The fact that he said Simmons was unrecognizable toward the end made me stop and think, wait, just how unrecognizable do you think he was?

My dad had a couple of Newhart albums (I remember 'The Button Down Mind') growing up (comedy albums, wild concept to think of now) ... loved The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, for me the cast and writing of the earlier one was superior but I loved both. Suzanne Pleshette was so good that just a snip of her in the finale is one of the most memorable things about the entire series.

He apparently had skin cancer. He got sick the day before and his staff urged him to go to the hospital but he didn't want to because it was his birthday.
He became an extreme recluse and I think that was real reason. The tinfoil hat on my head said the official photos that were approved and released by his staff may not have been recent. He was extremely overweight as a teenager and couldn't find clothes to fit him - in some cases wearing nothing but a sheet which you can see in an Italian movie he was in. He had moved there thinking to become a Catholic Priest and dabbled in acting.
After he worked to get the weight off and change his life around he found his way to Hollywood and became a professional fitness instructor. He was relentless with his clients.
It's not well known, but he often took on extreme cases like his own was and he paid for their healthcare out of his own pocket. He was often successful and sometimes wasn't - some of them relapsed.
If he wanted to retire and get out of the splotlight he certainly deserved it. Ironic maybe but again the tin foil hat makes me think of mental health issues because he had such a big personality. We've lost a cultural icon.
