Couchpotato spotted an evaluation of the playtester's actions in the recent demo:

Adventurers, what did you do?

Let’s take a look at what you did during the Demo!

Wake up, adventurer.

The numbers, adventurer! What do they mean?! Well, that’s what we’re here to show you. Let’s dive into what you did during this week of Steam Next Fest. How many of you saved the Fishermen? Did Jabori survive the adventure? Did you find the Temple’s secret entrance?

[...]
More information.

I really liked the demo, but then I liked the first game a lot too. It feels like this will have a stronger narrative; it felt like more of a proper RPG. Also, it seemed pretty polished for an Alpha.

Those stats are so predictable and it's what i would think they would be more o less.

It's aligned with the classic normal good run that is the most popular in rpgs.

The only thing that surprised me is that people didn't cast more cleric spells, like bless and guiding bolt... So weird.. I guess its true that demo is easy so you don't really need them but still.

I'm not a big fan of demo's or early releases for the most part, but I enjoyed Solasta, so I'm sure I'll get this as well. I actually still have most of the Solasta DLC to complete for that matter, but who knows when I'll get to that.

Personally I always preferred Baldur's Gate to Icewind Date, so I'd rather have a single character and recruitable companions, but I wouldn't expect them to change it up for Solasta 2. Either way I'm still looking forward to it.

They did say something about having recruitable companions in this one. I'm not sure how many though.

I really liked being able to make my full party. It's a little daunting to have to make four before even starting the game, though - might be nice to start with two, then add a new custom character every two or three hours to get up to the planned party size.

They provided multiple sample builds with Solasta I, so you could always make a couple then add in the samples. Presumably they'll do the same with Solasta II.

But then I'm not making all of them. I want to make them, it's just that I don't want to make them immediately. Not only am I eager to get into the game, but I also want to get a feeling for the developers' style. Are they going to be putting important things behind locks, or just supplemental stuff? How easy is spell recovery? Solasta 1 made gathering food on the road important, which I didn't expect. I had a ranger, but I might have made a bow-focused fighter instead - and then I would have been in trouble.

I was bored with the first game about halfway through (it felt tedious and slow), will this be more of the same?

Too early to say, but we can only hope. From the demo it is clear they have increased the production values with the character models and voice acting being greatly improved IMO. The demo is short, but it also seems like they've made an effort to improve storytelling and quest design.

The combat is going to be pretty much the same; turn-based tactical based on 5th edition D&D rules. So if you didn't like the combat of the first I doubt you will like the combat in this one.

I also found the Crown of the Magister campaign tedious though I did see some improvements in the Lost Valley and Palace of Ice DLCs. But probably the best thing about Solasta is it has a "dungeon maker" which let players create their own campaigns. Unfortunately it is currently unknown whether Solasta 2 will have a dungeon maker (they're using a different engine).

Yeah, the game gets significantly better at higher level and in late content, when your characters have actual interesting things to do with their turns other than "Move+Attack/cast cantrip" on repeat for the first 30 hours of the game.

Hopefully, they'll do something to mitigate that this time around, though it's still DnD 5ed so I don't expect miracles.

I got bored around the sort of late mid-game point for Solasta as well, but I feel it was the encounter design not the rules that were at fault. Early battles were often tense and exciting with interesting mechanics, but the later enemies seemed more like tedious bags of hit points to whittle away at. It's possible it may have gotten better at the end, but I didn't last that long.

You don't usually make your entire party. In most RPGs, you make one character and the rest of your party is filled up with pre-existing companion characters. Since the devs do know what the game will require, they can and do make those companions useful for the gameplay balance you're about to experience.

There are tons of RPGs where you make your entire party. It's just not as common nowadays.
