Solasta II - Demo Release Trailer

I've always thought "Solasta" would be an amazing name for a soft drink.

Jokes aside, cool to see them releasing a demo for this. When I saw the first game, it looked decent, but I definitely wasn't expecting them to make a sequel. I only really watched some footage for the first entry. I'm iffy about turn-based / tactical games in general, but after playing BG3 a bit, I could be convinced to try the series.

Has anyone else played the original?

I did. It's a game I really enjoyed. The story and graphics were average, but the tactical fights were pretty cool with the use of darkness and verticality that is seldom seen.

Another thing I enjoyed with the game was the editor to create full-fledged modules. Some were pretty great.

Hopefully Solasta 2 will be even better. Obviously, from what I could see, graphics have improved. I need to install / play that demo.

I used to keep getting the name mixed up with Solaris, the old Sun workstation. Heh. Showing my age I suppose. Still, I got a lot of mileage out of the first game -- 273 hours to date, and I'll probably go back and replay it at some point.

The demo is a 10.43 Gb download; that's still pretty hefty, so I'm in for a bit of a wait. I suppose it's all the chunky graphics and audio files.

I've been picturing it as a hybrid of Solaris and Shasta (cheap soda brand).

Played a bit of the demo today. It's such a huge improvement. Loved it. Looking forward to the full release.
Under the hood it's a lot like the first game, just with a (much) prettier wrapping. I'm not sure if it's running a lower res. version because of the demo, but it seems like it could be sharper. The cut-scene animation does need some work.

I had some performance issues as well. It ran like crap on my pc. I think the game will need optimizations and DLSS to run well on my pc.

Maybe but it depends on whether it's just not another combat simulator. 🤷‍♂️

I played through the first game in the summer of 2023 and unfortunately found it quite lacking and mediocre compared to the great D&D games of the past. This was after reading many positive reportages here. I put it mainly down to being starved of quality D&D games as for me it was both bland and forgettable. The most entertaining part was possibly one of my mainline fighters rolling something like four 1's in a row in one fight; the RNG was pretty wild at times. I beat the game without much hassle but it wasn't particularly fun. Hopefully the sequel fares better and I'll certainly keep an eye on it as I love the D&D tradition.

Played the demo, it's now my most anticipated game of the year together with Expedition 33. I played Solasta 1 for hundred of hours, excellent games in many aspects (DnD, combat, UI....), lacking in several others (story, graphics - in particular characters models, those "potato faces" were the stuff of nightmares...). It appears TT got the right message and they are improving everything but keeping the essential parts already excellent previously. I will jump in the EE as soon as available.

I also predict that Solasta II will be for TT what DOS 2 was for Larian, and hopefully we will see another great studio taking center stage.

Many people enjoy a good combat simulator. Hello Doom and Diablo!
Yep they do and that's fine but per the quote I replied to that's not BG 3.

Personally I hated the first game but the sequel looks to better.

It actually has a better story campaign and graphics.

I loved and hated the first game.

Loved, because a DnD game in which I can create my party and adventure in a 3D world with turn-based tactical combat and the nicely added verticality, is a rarity, and I will play any game that plays like this. They could make the worst game in the world, but if it's a turn-based tactical combat DnD based game with DnD lore and DnD monsters, I'll be all over it.

In the other hand, I didn't like most anything else. To start with, 5E DnD combat is not made for video-games, it's meant as a social experience with friends where the combat is just the background of the stories created by the DM and shared by the players - if you just put DnD combat into a videogame and ignore the fact that it's not fun by itself, it ends up being the snoozefest that it was in Solasta, especially until level ~5 where you spend 30 hours of the game walking up to enemies and choosing the "Attack" option. The travel system was one of the worst I've seen too, and the plot, characters, etc didn't help either. Graphics and funny faces aside, which I don't mind a lot, but I did mind things like the item Attunement rules - what the hell is anyone thinking when making a single-player DnD videogame limiting the amount of magic items you can use. It's the ultimate anti-fun.

Yeah it feels like they're less worried about making a game than about making a combat simulator, and to me that's not enough.

Let's hope they loosen up for the second game, and focus on making an actual game.

That said, as I pointed in the first line, I'll play it regardless. Beggars can't be choosers.

few grips, after 4 minits of play floaty pan camera, bobbleheads on some characters and runs really bad, when i set everything to low it runs even worse at 25 fps you would think when you turn off shadows and lower everything it would get you frames not remove them lol, i guess that's why the camera feels bad something just isn't working, ow well..

Got it to work with with new drivers, yey.

Few extra grips, few interactable npcs and world items, same as in avowed... For some reason you can't have the same weapon in two different weapon sets.

Looks to be better in every way compared to the first one. World building looks nice if i ignore the dumbed down "jump/climb" here white markers.

Are players really so dumb nowadays that they need markers so they know where to go?

I thought that too, although there was tons more detail, it felt a bit washed out in terms of colour and textures. And I have a new PC too.

I played for about 30 mins and then knowing it will probably be a Day One purchase for me I stopped.

I enjoyed Solasta 1, my husband is playing it at the moment, he especially enjoys turn based combat and isn't so fussed about story / acting / graphics.
