The "I Just Bought" thread

So you're betting on a PC port? :)

EDIT: I wonder if they'll publish another Elding Ring book for the DLC.
I’ve still got it on PS5 but am saving myself for a replay if it ever comes to PC. Otherwise I just might need to dust off my console. That’s effectively the only reason I still have it.

OK, not bragging (but I am). A present for myself for my upcoming advancement to level 70.

This:

A new PC: The Ryzen 7950x CPU, the venerable 4090. And as you can see lots of (very silent running) fans, 6 in total if you coun't the water cooling equipment. I didn't build this one myself, but spent most time setting it up, reinstalling software and actually also transfer licenses (mainly mathematics software) to it.

My main computer has always had a fine arts theme. The old one was called "Guernica". For the new one I chose "triptykon", after those three plate artworks poplular ion earlier days (I have 3 monitors). And this is my logon screen, "Garden of Earthly Delights", the famous triptykon by Hieronymous Bosch (yepp, the TV show person is named after him).:

The old one will get a second life at my oldest daughter. But I'll be keeping it for a while. To make sure that everything is transferred and set up correctly. And to play Fallout 4. Bought another FO4 from GOG and will be playhing London on the new one.

pibbuR who himself, approaching his elder days is running slower and slower.

PS. I'm not using it only for games. One of my main reasons for getting it (honest!) is that some of my programming projects (for instance the Mandelbrot set) demand a lot of calculations. Currently I'm using an 800x800 number matrix, with up to 200 iterations. But to get better resolution, I want a larger matrix, and up to 1000 iterations. And I also want to be able to zoom in and out smoothly. So a fast multithreaded CPU is useful, as is a fast GPU (I will probably also use the GPU. CUDA. Yay! DS.

PPS. Another (perhaps not very rational reason) is that it may be the last computer I buy. No, I'm not dying any time soon, but I do feel my age. OTOH, the next once-in-a-liefetime PC may be due in '29. DS

PPPS. Yes, I've also played a couple of games. Nice. DS

It was fun!
Every round there's a new crisis to solve, stuff to scavenge (e.g., so your colony doesn't starve), and zombies to cull so you don't get overrun, all while trying to move toward the scenario goal.
It's kinda like The Walking Dead in board game form.

Haven't bought this, but I'm fighting the urge to start falling down the hole of looking at it too much.
The main thing about it is the resolution is quite amazing, especially for an ultrawide. My current one tops at 3840x1600, and this Dell is at 5k by 2k.
The only draw of it is that it's response time is 5/8ms. But it does have a 120Hz refresh rate.

As far as size, it's ever so slightly larger than mine, from 38" to 40".

But I also worry that the new resolution is really gonna be pain in the ass to sustain in high-end games.
And I really don't have the room for a gaming monitor and a work monitor, because that's the only way this could work.

I wasn't too enamoured by some of the contents, but some of it is pretty cool. So I went for the CE of the Soul Reaver remastered.

I just had the most difficult time finding a 4k blu-ray of The VVitch movie. It's absolutely nowhere to be found. I finally stumbled on one copy, the last one apparently, on an ebay seller.
At the amount of searching I did I'm still not convinced it's legit until I see it for myself. And it was still in its wrapping foil? We'll see if it's an actual copy.

A24 also doesn't sell it, but I accidentally stumbled onto them selling books of the screenplays of both The VVitch and The Lighthouse. And a 4k version of The Lighthouse. So, I jumped at the opportunity and got a copy of all of them.
Interestingly, they also added a digital copy of The Lighthouse to my account, even though I can't purchase any other film from them. All of them say that they're not available in my country. But The Lighthouse was? Weird.

Anyway, it's a nice early birthday present for myself. I love these two films. I didn't really like The Northman. But I'm excited for Nosferatu.

I just bought expensive repairs to my back door and the entrance area, I'd noticed significant water damage which has steadily gotten worse over time. The contractor said the boards he removed weren't meant to be on the exterior, which explains a great deal. This time he used marine treated lumber, I sat and watched him do the work for three hours and the drafts are gone, no more moisture collecting, it wasn't cheap yet I'm well pleased.

A Sony Dualsense controller.

My Dualshock 4 met an untimely demise a couple weeks ago, so it was time for a new gamepad. The Dualsense is supposedly better with new features like adaptive triggers that adjust their resistance based on what's happening in the game. Haven't used it yet so we'll see. For the price, it better be good.
