The "I Just Bought" thread

I bought an authentic Australian cowboy hat at a local shop yesterday. I've not had this style of a hat since my riding days, which concluded over twenty years ago. Now when I'm out on the porch I'm styling and profiling!!
That's one of the things that surprised me (but probably shouldn't have), when I some years ago for the first time went to Texas. People actually used cowboy hats.

pibbuR who didn't notice anyone wearing gun belts or boots with spikes.

PS. FYI: We don't wear viking helmets in Norway. DS.

Yeah, I wore a hat when I rode back in the seventies, eighties and nineties all the time. It was more for protection from limbs/branches back then, now it will be for the direct Florida sunlight.

This morning I got an email from Amazon stating that the entire Amber series, by Zelazny, could be mine for fifteen bucks. That's ten books, so yeah, I had to get it. I've needed to replace those books forever.

I bought the complete series in one PB several years ago for about $10. You might be able to guess it's a particular favourite of mine!! :)

The name does indeed give it away, sir! I love Zelazny, while I wonder if some older books will still strike me these days the same way, I've no doubt about this set and others like Burroughs, Howard, Moorcock, etc. Those are fantasy giants to me!

I have all the Burroughs books in original PB's many of which I paid the exorbitant sum of 50 cents for. I also have most of Howard and Moorcock as well in their original PB editions. I have a rather extensive collection of several thousand books in my home library!!

Nod, I used to have thousands and wound up giving most away when I had to move. In the past three years I've slowly been adding to my collection, I'm nowhere near where I used to be yet making progress. My son has most of my prized volumes, many of which are signed from meeting authors at various conventions in the seventies, eighties and nineties.

The Hammer Speedracer S spinning bike.

Some of you may remember that 3 years ago I informed the watch about my last Ergometer bike purchase. It was an expensive bike, so I really expected it to last many years. It didn't (but long enough for the warranty to expire). Replacing the circuit board helped initially, but after a while it failed again. Said board wasn't particularly expensive (50 USD), but after having replaced it twice and it failed again not long after, I gave up.

And bought a new one, but this time a spinning bike, which is designed a bit simpler.

I use my exercise bike(s) a lot, 1-1/2 hour 6 - 7 days a week, so having one I can rely on is important to me. So far I'm quite happy with it. Nice color. A built in holder for my Surface or my iPad. The handle bars are positioned too low for my taste (and back), which I expected because that's how spinning bikes are designed. Fortunately I could fix that by mounting the handle bars of the old one on top of the new one.

Apparently I can also connect it to apps for interactive purposes.

Some books from my past, the Thieve's World series, by Robert Aspirin. I saw they were on a serious discount for kindle so I grabbed the first six.
Enjoy! I have very fond memories of the Thieves' World anthologies (and stand-alone spin-offs). I recently learned that there are two "new" (as in 2002 and 2004) anthologies set in the Thieves' world universe that Lynn Abbey was an editor on. Did a bit more googling to find out if Robert Aspirin was involved in anyway, and sadly found a 2002 interview with Lynn addressing his involvement (or lack thereof):

This is not an easy question to answer. Bob's writing "hiatus" began before we separated and played a part along the path that led to Thieves' World showing up as my sole property in our divorce. Suffice to say that he knew Thieves' World was coming back to life at Tor and that he signed the same "bridge" agreement that I sent to all the other 80s authors.
When it came time to form the chorus, I invited him to participate and he declined the offer -- which I can't say was a big surprise. The invitation still stands. I would very much like to have a story from Bob and have made provisions that, should he decide to write one, he would not have to deal with his ex-wife during the editorial phase.

Did some more googling and found mostly positive reviews. So I picked them up. Then I immediately put them aside and restarted reading Book 1. I should get to the new anthologies sometime around 2030 ;-).

In the book thread a couple of us were speaking about Alan Foster and I remembered a series of his that I enjoyed back in the eighties called Spellsinger. I had some kindle credits so I bought book one and look forward to re-reading it!

Good series, I bought them all when they first came out, plus his Flinx series. I met him once at the World SF convention, so have followed his works.

Yeah I remember liking them a lot back in the day, now let's see if they live up to the memories. I'm planning to sample that Flinx and Pip series also, that's one I've never read.

To complete the collection, I got the soundtrack on CD.

Apparently there's gonna be an artbook reveal next week.

I bought a push lawn mower, I'm not even sure if I'll be able to use it yet I think it'll be similar to my walker so nothing ventured, nothing gained. If nothing else it should be amusing to assemble it.
