What for? I liked the game but a remaster? If it was a remake with some refinements it had some logic but a remaster?

They have a sequel coming. Maybe they wanted to apply some updates they've developed to their previous game, and also get some hype going for the new one.

They seem to be moving the original game from UE4 to UE5. I'm guessing SS2 will be based on UE5 too, so porting their original codebase and assets to UE5 provides good experience for the team, whilst delivering a low-risk product during the Kickstarter phase (or thereabouts) of SS2.

I suspect I'll miss out, as the real "original" version of SS was sold by a different publisher on PS4/XboxOne era kit, and under a different Steam listing. The free update will likely be for those who have purchased the recent Frogwares self-published edition. It may be a good reason to double-dip though!

That's a nice caveat, to give the new version to folks that have the original. Tis always good to remember those loyal to you.
