Worthplaying has some new screenshots for The Surge 2.

The Surge 2 takes place in a brand new environment: a sprawling, devastated citywith larger and more ambitious level design, made possible by Deck13's upgraded and improved engine. Combat is more brutal and tactical than ever, with even more options thanks to an expanded limb targeting system. In addition, more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones give players a vast arsenal to build their character with, in their fight against the array of diverse new enemies and bosses.

Seems development is going well for this game but Lords of The Fallen 2 was stalled.

CI Games Terminates Partnership with Defiant Studios - Eurogamer
The break doesn't sound amicable. Here's how CI Games announced it in a Polish press release on Wednesday, 15th May (translated for Eurogamer by Daniel Kłosiński - thank you).

"The termination of the agreement was submitted due to inadequate execution by Defiant [of] a key work stage (milestone no. 11), a so-called vertical slice. The quality of the work was lower than expected by the company, as precisely described in the agreement, despite three calls to improve the quality of this stage of work."

Defiant Studios, however, doesn't agree, and was less than thrilled by the portrayal.
Also have an interview if anyone wants to read it.

The Surge 2 Interview - PCGamesN
Deck 13’s action-RPG is set in a world where ripping apart cyborgs to obtain their mechanical parts so you can upgrade your own heavy-grade exoskeleton is as routine as having cereal for breakfast. It’s the only way you’re able to fight through the game’s future vision of Earth after it has suffered an ecological collapse, brought on by the effects of pollution and other strains caused by the swelling human population.

In the first Surge game, the megacorp CREO was trying to restore the planet back to health with a number of nanobot-loaded rockets that were blasted into the atmosphere. Unfortunately, that plan failed, as the nanobots instead made every technologically enhanced human crazy – a big problem when mechanical body augmentation is the norm. The Surge 2 winds time forward two months after the incident, letting us escape the confines of the first game’s factory and explore what’s left of the outside world.

Your new stomping ground is Jericho City, and it is, predictably, in ruins. But it’s far from abandoned as it’s under the control of an organisation called A.I.D, which is trying to prevent further spread of the techno virus by placing the whole city under strict quarantine. The upgrade from a factory to an entire city is the result of Deck 13 Wanting to push every feature of The Surge further, starting with vastly expanding the world.

How is fallen 2 related to surge 2 - was deck 13 doing both?

I didnt like Lords of The Fallen and based on that experience I avoided The Surge. Its quite long time though so Im not able to recall all problems I had with game.
I think melee weapons lacked proper feeling of impact when you striked with them and it had this overall feeling of cheap copy to DS. But that is surely all subjective as I know the game was quite popular.

Currently I am playing Lords of the Fallen and it is an under rated gem. It is a proper action adventure of the old, with proper story, playable character, NPCs, and dialog.

The combat is actually distinct and find it more enjoyable than DS. The weapons are distinct, varied with proper actual weight to them - some have special attributes (e.g. healing) and have slots to put gems inside. There is proper weapon impact.

The world is varied and connected in clever ways - not as big as in DS games, but this is an advantage for me.

The weapon, monster, weapon and armour graphics are beautiful an impressive.

I don't think it is valid or fair to compare LoD with DS games, as I find it enjoyable and distinct enough to be a breath of fresh (and colourful) air compared to the DS games - highly recommended.

That is why I am looking forward to what Deck 13 will do next.
