The SWTOR thread

The class stories were the best Star wars and RP experience for me - very expensive to make, I can imagine more cheap versions for MMOs, but I did enjoy every class atleast for the first playthrough. Sadly with players leaving all MMOs tend to be more and more annoying for some reason and aggressive with their market and it is less about - enjoy your stay here, come back again.

That is the price for having opinion in gaming I guess. That is also a reason why I don't comment on official forums of any game anymore - it never made anything better sadly. Also it was never good for me either.

And I didn't know SWTOR will get a new expansion, I played only the first one. And I was happy for the new race from the last one.

It is sad how SWTOR was trying to be great roleplaying game and ended up as a bad action game (for me obviously tab targetting reworked to action, but never working with mouse properly, all of those spammy skills like from more static combat, but very hard to do fast in action combat). Is it really that the majority of players do prefer combat? Why if there is roleplaying element of the game - like the class story, why it does always have some other area of roleplaying spoiled, so you will never know how many players would really enjoy it - like bad character models, no "cozy" interiors/alleys, no places in the cities you could call home, or groups which are neutral, so you don't just kill them, no other areas where you could enhance your class story, or supporting your class story - it is just a lot of mobs to kill, combat zones everywhere, after some time it gets very repetitive. But for me combat is always the most boring part of any MMO with exception of purely action focused games like POE or Warframe.

On the other hand when Greedfall was released, only a few youtubers actually commented about the roleplaying strength of the game, all others who see themselves as RPG experts commented about the lack of combat - so is there really such demand that even in AA game focused on roleplaying in a good way, they still demand a lot of mobs to kill?

Reminds me of the EQ Flames board back a few years ago, that was quite the site to wallow in. People were even dragging real life issues into the mess, which is when I opted out. Granted this was some years ago, yet the memories have stuck with just how insidious some actions can be, even when, for the most part, it's all happening on-line.

Oh, people hated me much more at the SWTOR forums when I was more active there. Someone even named his toon after me : "AlrikFassklauer", where "klauen" is a verb for stealing/robbing, and a Fass/Faß is a barrel.
"Klaue" is also the word for = English "claw".

These days, I'm only active here anymore - especially since only subscribers can post in the SWTOR forums - and currently in the DDO forums as well.

Besides, since the last patch one or two weeks ago, F2P people FINALLY can send in bug reports !
In my eyes, that's a feature 10 years too late.
But typical for SWTOR's restrictions.

Save for Pantheon, I pretty much have. I'm not even sure I'll actually play the game when it releases, unless the folks that I've been playing with up to now stick around. I've gotten quite used to being able to stop when I want to, now, and wander out onto the porch for as long as I desire. Those mmo's are some tough leashes to break.

To me, as I have never played SWG, this is a fascinating discussion : https://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=995320

In it, there are a few links :

Thanks for those links - I was always wondering if I would like SWG. But I think what I would like there is something a bit different than what is praised - the freedom to roleplay and make shops, and places where I would feel like home, that is what I would like. Also finding hidden class for myself - that does sound interesting.

And what is typical - that SWTOR aimed tobe wow killer, but it didn't take on the WoW strength - perfect character models and memorable cities. Instead there is some strange background color filter in SWTOR, which makes their zones feel like brown/grey instead of more colorful. But the strength of WoW is in perfect archtypes IMO - like really big trees in elven forest or typical/different biomes for each zone, not the colors or stylized graphics - atleast not for me. Some zones in SWTOR are interesting, but they are just combat zones. and their interiors feel very barren for me.

And about the skills - I do like LOTRO classes, it does have a lot of skills, but it does work well for tab targetting, but if you have to spam something fast in action combat, then I don't know how I would do it with too many options. But for example WoW in cataclysm removed skills and I believe that was one of the reasons why I didn't enjoy it - before BfA I had to level up 20 levels with only 2-3 combat skills with very slow animations - I almost fell asleep. I didn't like that kind of streamlining. Not to mention they removed all good looking armors aswell - you had 1 kind of medium/light/heavy armor for all classes/races for all levels - they just gave you different color, so shrinking levels helped a bit, but I enjoyed levelling in LOTRO or even in SWTOR much more. Only the camera didn't work properly esp for shooting for me, but maybe I did something wrong. But still it gets repetitive for me if that is the only feature prefered in MMO - combat and story as bonus. I believe that is an old concept from Everquest?

I never played SWG or WOW, so I can't comment on that. SWTOR's strength really lies imho in its so-called "class stories".

You can outfit your character the way you like now, and have housing as well, but without any experiewnhce with other MMOs I cannot tell how much that differs from other MMOs / from everything else.

I'm currently playing SWTOR due to the latest expansion. The actual content is indeed a bit light, but I don't really have any other problems. At least no new problems. It still feels a bit sluggish, but that's been the case since the start due to the engine. It could have been considerably better in a smoother engine, as the actual content is pretty good.

My game stopped working after i had used the last patch or so ... The situation remains a little bit misty ... ("Nebel (German) = mist (English), thus Germans write "The situation remains nebulös.").

However, I couldn't play. The game just wouldn't start, always telling me that the game's version number was not fitting with the patch's version number.

However, I just tried it to download the newest Launcher from the SWTOR web site. It wanted to download almost 40 GB.
I just rtried it. It took several hours.
But in the end it worked. I can play SWTOR now again !

So, if anyone out there has problems with this game after the last few patches - you can try this out. That it worked out for me might mean that it might work out for other players, too.

By the way, as an F2P player I can't post that on their official forums ...
