The TV Series discussion thread

I don't agree. If anything,
it made it extremely clear that Joel was driven back the violent behavior of his early life by his desperation not to lose Ellie. We know that he is capable of such violence, and we know how much he cares about her... enough to channel an earlier version of himself that he was glad to be leaving behind.

We not only got the giraffe scene, but it was a real giraffe!
I don’t mean Joel isn’t capable of attempting that. I mean it’s highly unlikely he could take out as many armed soldiers as he did.
Compared to every other encounter in the show up until then, where they never strayed into straight unrealistic power fantasy territory.

About the giraffe, I was trying to determine if it was real or not. I couldn't say for certain. But it's really cool if it was a real indeed.

EDIT: now that the season is over I realize how little we've seen of infected in the whole thing. very very little of them, aside from the sink-hole in the Kansas City episode.
Not that big of a deal, honestly. But it's interesting to realize in retrospect.

It's real. They spent over a month getting the animal used to the situation so that the actors could feed it during filming.

Last night I finished the Good Fight, overall a worthwhile series yet doesn't compare much to the much superior show, Good Wife. When Good Fight stuck to the courts and investigations I thought it good and compelling, yet when it went into the weeds about Trump and Diane taking drugs and such, it completely lost me. If the people in charge ever do another barrister/attorney show I'll have to hope they stick more to the actual cases involved.

Who else didn't realize that the woman playing Ellie's mom in the flashback at the beginning of the episode is Ashley Johnson who voices Ellie in the games?

Both she and Troy Baker kind of took me out of it; recognizing them.
Troy was also pretty decent, not that he had a very significant role. I liked that he looked almost starvingly thin.
I also did enjoy David, the head of the cult. The actor played his character just right.

I didn't know anything about the voice over work yet thought they did a great job casting the mum as I saw plenty of shared characteristics between daughter and mother. Then again, HBO usually does a great job in getting the right folk for the proper gig.

Her voice is forever imprinted on my psyche, so I knew immediately. I thought she did a great job.

Interesting metatextual layer to that.... she "gave birth" to the character of Ellie in a way, and now in the show, she's giving birth to her in a biological sense.

I just saw the last episode of "The Last of Us." Man, it was good.

It looks like she is her older sister or mother in real life. As soon as I saw her I thought she was pregnant with Ellie.

Yes, it was my guess too. I didn't play the game so I had no idea about the actor.

The "explanation" about Ellie's disposition was ridiculous, they should have kept it a mystery or simply as a result of her immune system, but despite that I liked the last episode. It was a little rushed, but full of conflicts and emotions. The ending was great and begged for a 2nd season.

Interesting, this is the second time I hear people considering that scene (Ellie's mom getting bit right as when she gives birth) as an explanation for Ellie's condition.
I didn't read that at all into that scene. To my mind it's still a mystery as to why she is how she is.
If I understood correctly what you meant ...

The whole scene though was a bit useless to me. And it also took up around 10 mins of the already shortest episode, with very little payoff.

And I read some interview part that apparently they're thinking of probably also exploring Ellie's father?
This will have the unfortunate effect of trying to explain and detail everything, when some things just don't matter or shouldn't be bothered with.
Let alone that it tends to turn the whole thing into a family melodrama.

That's what I meant, you're correct.

I assume it was a hint at that because they made it very obvious that the mother cut the cord after she was bitten, and there was an awkward moment later when she swore that she did it before. I don't see why else they would have spent time on that scene. But maybe it's a decoy and we'll know more in season 2... I haven't played any part of the game.

I also wonder how the zombie entered the house. We see later that the front door is still locked, and the back door is closed.

The game doesn't have any mention of Ellie's mom at all, and gives no hint or even try to tackle the source of Ellie's condition.

About it getting in, I think you see some shattered glass on the inside of the house, when the fireflies walk upstairs.

The game does mention Ellie's mom. It names her as Anna, and says that Marlene knew her.

The TV show suggests an explanation for Ellie's immunity, but it hardly hits us over the head with it. There isn't a single line of dialogue concerning it.

The second game spends exactly zero seconds further exploring or explaining Ellie's immunity. It's not that important, nor the point.

I thought it was pretty clear that that's what they were suggesting. There was also a scene later on where Marlene mentions their doctor's theory about Ellie that makes it even more obvious.

I've also been trying to catch up on the sixth series of Snowfall and man, Jerome can be brutal! I'll miss this show when it's all said and done, I hope they can stick a spectacular landing.

The current series of Picard continues to be brilliant, I'd never hoped to see that person from Enterprise D again! Watching them chew out that thirty year old fat was quite the treat, yet hard to watch at the same time.
