The TV Series discussion thread

I thought TloU season 2 would take longer than 2 years to come out.

I have very mixed feelings about watching it, though I'm sure I'll end up doing so. I'm very attached to the experience I had with the game and its version of the story.

I hear S2 will only tackle around half of the full game. And at least another one is needed to wrap up Part 2.

Will be curious if a S4 wll tackle Part 3 way before the game, if at all.

Good question. Maybe a television season is the only way we'll get a continuation. I haven't heard anything about another game sequel.

I completed my viewing of Lower Decks this week and man, for a cartoon it's actually quite good. The show manages to stay relevant and yet respectful to past Trek shows, while bringing forth humour and parts of starships that don't always get covered. In latter seasons you see more key elements yet, in the beginning, it's quite basic. By far the most serious accomplishment this show had for me was putting to rest whether ST:D was set in the prime universe or not. I could easily rewatch this show again in the future, and likely will.

And I tried out a police drama called On Call, I'd call it fast paced and rather hard hitting for a Dick Wolf show. There's no standing in corridors/rooms whinging about feelings, heck within the first three minutes of the pilot you've an LEO fighting for her very life in the streets, the repercussions of which are still being sussed out. I'm also a huge La Salle fan, going back to Five Corners, Coming to America and, of course, ER. He's a quadruple threat, with writing, producing, directing and acting in his resume, and he has a lot to do with this show.

I finished Kaos, fantastic show and just learned it was cancelled lol. Great acting, Goldblum was marvelous, i love how they made Zeus, from funny and lovable at teh start to a complete maniac in the last episode. And that gilf of his wife, damn :D. At least it somehow ended ok.

I loved the shit out of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
It's aimed at a younger age group, but has plenty of fun adventure and better writing than the last Star Wars thing I watched (and didn't finish).

I finished season 2 of Silo this morning. Really good stuff, and I'm already looking forward to season 3.

I hope it's a short turnaround until the next season. The ending came way too fast and felt more like the end of an episode than the end of a season.

Yeah, it was fun. Good looking show, too. And they stuck the landing, though it was a bit abrupt.

Unfortunately, it didn't do very well ratings-wise apparently. I was just reading about it yesterday.

Bummer. Maybe people feel a bit stung about The Acolyte. (Both detractors and fans who are not getting a finish to the story. For the record, I thought it had a shit story and bad writing but had a pretty good villain).

The Silo finale was good. A cliffhanger, our first glimpse of the past, a major change in Silo Prime's status quo and a revelation or two. I'll be happy if S3 takes 12-18 months to hit cause that's about the best we can hope for these days. It was around 18 months between seasons 1&2.

I finished the Secret Level telly show. All in all I enjoyed it, though I was only familiar with maybe two games that were featured. The stories were interesting and didn't need editing, they all ran tight and to the point.

Shagnak's comments made me interested and most of the reviews I saw on IMDB were positive (7.2 aggregate, which is really good for IMDB). This one (a 7 rating) seems to sum up what a lot of reviewers were getting at-

Star Wars Goonies is better than bad Star Wars

As most children of the Eighties I have fond memories of The Goonies, but I would be lying if I said that's the direction I desperately wanted for new Star Wars content.

I mean, after the disappointment of the sequel trilogy and many others - all Disney live-action content except Andor, Rogue One and the first two seasons of Mando I'd rate between mediocre and bad - I'm just starving for good mature, epic Star Wars content. Give me an Andor-like show set in the Old Republic with Jedi, Sith and Nick Gillard as stunt coordinator for the lightsaber battles.

HOWEVER... to be fair I will say that Skeleton Crew is okay. It's not offensive or poorly made; not obviously cheap like The Book of Boba Fett; not aimless like Season 3 of Mando; not lore-breaking like the sequels and Kenobi; not tone-deaf like the Acolyte.

Hooray?

This is basically Star Wars Goonies, a neat little story of a bunch of kids having an adventure in the Star Wars universe. The writing is so far (as of episode 4) decent: effects, costumes and locations look great: the whole thing has a certain charm.

I'm guessing this, similar to Andor, is a passion project for its creators and was seen as a minor side-project by the higher-ups, who did not therefore bother to get involved, which nowadays in Lucasfilm is a blessing.

So far, so good.

The premise doesn't seem that interesting to me. Is it as much for kids as the reviews make it out to be? A ton of reviews mentioned the Goonies. I don't mind if it's made for both kids and adults like Kungfu Panda or MegaMind, but at my age movies like the Goonies aren't really watchable to me.

I love this reviewer's idea about a show based in the Old Republic. I somewhat recently watched all the CGI scenes from SW: TOR, and they are fantastic, same with DC Universe Online CGI scenes. Both are worthy of their own shows and way better than anything coming out recently in my opinion. I liked the first season of the Mandalorian but none of the other recent Star Wars shows. I thought the Rogue One movie was pure gold, as well as The Force Awakens. Solo was pretty good too. My kids loved the Clone Wars cartoons, but I never got into them.

I finished watching On Call and enjoyed the show a lot. I'll be onboard should there be another season. For only knowing two of the cast, both the lieutenant and sergeant, the rest did a fine job and the show seemed to run with a small tight cast, which I appreciated. With thirty minute episodes or less for the most part, there wasn't time wasted while all the crucial material was well covered.

I've been watching Lonesome Dove, the telly version, one of those few adaptations that's darn near as good as the book that originated it. Over thirty years later and it's still excellent.

I finished the first Lonesome Dove and immediately went into the follow-up, Return to Lonesome Dove. I'd forgotten that Jones didn't reprise his role in this sequel so that's too bad, so far it's not nearly as good as the first yet I'm sticking with it for now.

Just about to finish Shogun. It really is very well done.

The scene in ep 8 with Hiromatsu disagreeing with Toranaga is some of the best stuff I've seen on a screen for quite some time.
