The TV Series discussion thread

I've watched the first three episodes of Black Mirror's latest season. Thus far, the first was definitely the most Black Mirror'ish, with the latter two lacking a clear message behind all the scifi fantasy.

I remember some of the earlier episodes of Black Mirror being really good. I don't think I've seen anything from the last 2-3 seasons.

We tried to watch Vice Principals, a 2 season series with Danny Mcbride and Walton Goggins, but I'm not feeling it. Danny Mcbride's character, especially, feels too much like the one in Righteous Gemstones, and it doesn't really fit.
Maybe it gets better, but the first episode really didn't do it for me.

You must be new to Danny McBride. All of his roles are variations on that character (RG, Vice Principals, Foot Fist Way, Eastbound and Down).

I love Vice Principals, personally.

Yeah, not too familiar with him. I think I may have seen him in Pineapple Express only. And that was a while ago.
I like him in RG. I find it really fits for that character. But maybe I just need to see more of Vice Principals. You might've just made me try again. We'll see.

Watching the second episode of The Last of Us season 2 right now. I came across it while randomly flipping channels. It deviates from the game more than I was expecting.

*Edit* Yeah, they dumbed it down a bit for the TV audience.

I've only seems screenshots here and there online, mostly as memes, and not even of that infamous scene. But I have a feeling I will be disappointed by season 2.
I hope they're mostly suffering from out-of-context, and they look better in the episode, but I'm not too hopeful. I hear the general consensus is the game handles things better.

S1 was mostly fine with me, but it often felt like fan-fiction. I guess it's hard to not when I knew the original material by heart.
I very rarely know the material earlier than the series/movie, so this was a weird experience.

In other news, we've seen episode 2 of Vice Principals, and it really goes to 11. It got a lot more fun really fast.

I've started watching Bosch as I've heard good things about it. Starting off with child abuse and murder seems like a really on the nose way to grab a viewer's attention. But the pilot was interesting so I'll keep going. No spoilers please.

Reddick seems like Daniels from The Wire by another name.

It is admittedly jarring to see Jamie Hector as a cop instead of totally psychopathic Marlo Stanfield, again from The Wire.

Titus Welliver seems pretty compelling as a married to the job detective / profiler with a tragic backstory. It's also a relief to listen to him speaking in his natural accent. His "Irish" accent in Sons of Anarchy was Frosty Lucky Charms commercials-level terrible.

I often have issue with whom is chosen to play someone from books, yet I think Welliver was the perfect pick for Bosch. I'm a fan of both books and telly show, so I think you'll enjoy it. The books add a lot more backround, if the show hooks you, they might be worth checking out. And aye, Hector playing Edgar was yet another inspired top-notch pick for casting, he totally nails the part.
