The TV Series discussion thread

What's the general opinion on 24, the tv series? I saw a couple of episodes ages ago close to when it originally aired, and found it lukewarm even then. It certainly didn't feel like a very nuanced spy thriller; but maybe I hadn't seen enough?
I did recently watch 1-2 seasons of Slow Horses, and I found it pretty good. How would 24 compare? I also have a negative bias against propaganda shows, so they need to be good for me to close my eyes to that.
I'm basically considering if it's worth going down that road, and would love some opinions as to how the show progresses? Does it get better with each season? It's also quite long, with 9 seasons of around 24 episodes each, so I'd like to know if it's worth spending that time.

I watched 24 back when it aired and the first three-four series were pretty good, in particular the first two. After that, at least for me the quality truly took a drop.
I found the first season amazing, it was very original for the time, also very much relevant to the times.
After that it became of of the same.

Watched Andor Season 1+2 and then Rogue One right after. Ugh it was sooo good. This is peak Star Wars and (almost) up there with the OT in my book. It also makes A New Hope even better when you know the stakes behind the beginning of the rebellion and what it cost to get those death star plans.

I hope Gilroy gets to create more SW series + movies. His team seems to excel at actual good writing and less fan-service, reviving old characters from and slapstick stuff, which seems to be the only type of stories that team Filoni & Favreau can pull off.

I watched all seasons of 24 as it originally aired and while it was great at the time, TV standards were much lower before about 2010 and I wouldn't think it would hold up all that well compared to the shows that are out there in the last ~15 years. I didn't think it got better or worse, all the seasons were pretty similar in quality. Also, each season is a stand-alone story. Some sub-plots (characters, deaths, betrayals, etc) carry across seasons, so you wouldn't want to start with a random season in the middle, but there's no reason you couldn't just watch the 1st season then stop there if you didn't think it was good enough.

Bosch: Legacy has been exceptional this season. I'm up to the eighth episode and it's only getting better. This show has always been decent, almost on a level with the novels, yet these episodes have taken it up a notch.

Fifteen years ago today one of the best series finales ever aired, for Lost. Though they lied to us, saying the afterlife wouldn't be involved, it did wrap things up nicely.

I did lose some steam as the seasons went on, but I still fondly remember the whole ride. It was a lot of fun. And the first couple of seasons were masterful.
I don't remember the exact details, but I remember watching some pretty solid analysis of the ending, and they argued it wasn't technically afterlife/limbo they ended with. But I honestly don't remember.
Regardless, it did it's jobs beautifully. It kept me hooked all-throughout. :D

Agreed, especially those first three or four seasons. When the writers' strike hit, it had significant impact on the show yet they even weathered that and got to a conclusion. I've even re-watched it and likely will do so again.

Just read that Wheel of Time has been cancelled!! :( I really liked that series.
I also just read that. Interesting, it looked like amazon had endless amounts of money to throw at anything. I wonder what's changed. Is Rings of Power gobbling up most of the film budget? Though I assume they planned for all that budgeting?

I also wonder how do they judge whether a show is successful since it's a streaming service. They can track how many are watching it, but how do they know what to compare it against, and find out whether that's a good number or not, given how large the pool of people that would watch that is? And I don't imagine they can know how many would even watch it? So then what do they compare it against? Plus, if they're offering the streaming service to all that have amazon prime that confuses the numbers even more. I'd be curious what they judge something they make against. Maybe the other series? But that wouldn't make much sense since you'd think they each have their own audience?

Yeah that's a total bummer on Wheel of Time, as I thought the third and now final series was the best of the lot. Too bad so sad, might have to finally get all the books.

Completely agree. It's one of the only TV shows that went up in quality each season.
Quite often the first season is good and then each season is a lesser version but for Wheel of Time it was the opposite.

Really started getting into it.

On the other hand the books are a no go for me. I tried the first book ages ago and half the book was about twirling of hair.
