Timothy Cain - RPG Myths

While what Tim says is true, I'm not sure what point he is trying to make. The whole point of escapist fantasy is to allow us to indulge ourselves by living lives beyond reality. I enjoy simulations, but I also like being a superstud saviour of the universe!

The biggest RPG myth is that it is really "open-world".

I suspect a lot of those are just done to eliminate tedious activity. The 'stash' for example, magically follows you around as a place to store loot. Ability scores are gross simplifications that avoid the tedium of choosing a lot of scores during character creation and level up.
